If you what you really think what America's interest is, I want to understand why you and India think being friends and allies with America is good for India and not for other countries.

India wants to be the South Asian Hegamon.

And is quite happy to see China dominate east Asia.

India just wants China to cut off Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. And keep its hands off Bhutan and Afghanistan.

India would definitely back China if it got the above.

US is greedy and will not let India dominate South Asia.

Uncle Sam wants South Asia to stay lower middle income and at its mercy.

None of these countries have Bangladesh’s best interest at heart.

Mainly because they do not think Bangladeshis to be worthy.

Shrewd strategy for Bangladesh is to keep all three (India, China and USA) at equidistance.

No other leader in BD’s history has managed this feat except Hasina.

And you do not have any other leader with the credibility to pull off that feat.

Bangladesh cannot maximise its imports and investment as well as getting the best deals on imports of essentials and defence equipment - WITHOUT THE ABOVE TRIAD.

Basically:

1. Need Chinese investment and defence equipment and infrastructure. No one builds basic infrastructure cheaper than China. No one builds factories faster than China.

2. US/EU for exports

3. No one will supply food and raw materials cheaper than India. Shipping cost alone will be crippling.

Formation of Bangladesh Democratic Council is conditionally linked to holding Hasina accountable for crimes against Bangladeshis and crimes against humanity.

Rohingya participation in BDC must be ensured.

United States of America must charter a 6 point agenda on the question of democracy in Bangladesh.

Pakistan’s budget is 51 billion with half that to service debt. So actual budget is 26 billion. But given your military industrial complex eats up more than 10 billion - YOUR ACTUAL BUDGET IS A MERE 16 BILLION.

Bangladesh’s budget is going to be over 70 billion.

But Pakistan’s population is probably 25% bigger.

So per capita your government probably spends 1/10 of Bangladesh.

Let that sink in.

Within 5 years - that spending disparity will make both countries drift farther apart.

I don't think India being big enough ensures safety from USA. The China are bigger and far far more powerful, the USSR was far bigger and far more powerful. The USSR failed and China is feeling the heat.

But I do agree with you that we should tread carefully. We should keep a balanced relationship with the US and the collective west. I just think the same applies for India.

no big defence industry
