The Last Stand - Air War 1971

Maulana Azad also said among among other things that creation of pakistan would be a grave mistake, do you concur with that too, or just cherry pick certain aspects of his viewpoints?

Forget about Maulana Sahib. Mr. Jinnah from day 1 was of the opinion that if partition is to happen then 3 different independent countries should be carved. It's there in his letters and correspondence with the British. The British on the other hand firmly rejected this. And thus Mr. Jinnah was forced to go from no partition to two Muslim states to one Muslim state. People on all 3 sides just don't want to talk about it because it doesn't serve their agendas. Unfortunately I can't find those records on google and will have to sift through my old course-packs.

As far as the partition is concerned it was unfortunate that it had to happen but given the situation and circumstances the Muslims of India and Mr. Jinnah were forced into it was the only option left for them and the correct decision, cent percent. Maulana Sahib has talked about what forced Mr. Jinnah to demand the partition after having already signed the agreement to stay united. This is again a very open secret which neither of the sides wants to talk about.

The Bengalis were treated unfairly. There is no doubt about that. However the claim of innocence by the Bengalis and the atrocities committed by West Pakistan forces are grossly exaggerated. Ayesha Jalal and Sugata Bose have some very acclaimed works on the subject. Ayesha Jalal is considered as the foremost academic on South Asian affairs along with Sugata Bose who is the nephew of Subhas Chandra Bose.
