Let's not pretend Iran has some deep rooted brotherly unconditional love for India.
It was a two-way street - India has been one of the few countries that not only continued trading oil with Iran after the onset of the heaviest US sanctions - but also lobbied the US successfully to continue with a special exemption to do so. This was at a time Iran was pretty much stopped from any trade through any channel and no bank in the world having an office in a western country would accept money payable to Iranian companies.
Pakistan made no such effort despite being a next-door neighbour and consequently cannot expect the same return.
So have we. Remember how China has vetoed JEM And NSG of India for Pakistan. Sometimes, I wonder Mr. Nair would any country would do this like China has done for Pakistan.
China is no charitable foundation and in one way or another will or already has obtained something in return that, in the long run, is probably worth more to Pakistan than the veto.
Come to think of it, I have a theory that Pakistan stands to gain if Masood is designated a terrorist
- the UN would have told Inda - 'we did something for you, don't come back to us again soon'
- he can then conveniently disappear
- or he can be imprisoned which will make him a matyr and possibly incite more violence in Kashmir
- Pakistan will then be able to say - 'we took action against terrorists' and win some brownie points, possibly bolstering its NSG app
Instead of continuing the image that is is sheltering a man convicted over 20 years ago and the subject of a terrorist hijack, not to mention leading a UN-designated terrorist organisation.
