The Guardian: Öcalan - My real role in Kurds' struggle for freedom

I would respectfully, disagree with the assertion PKK = Kurdish people.
You do realize that PKK is internationally banned in many nations, just like ETA.

You can disagree as much as you want. I am telling you this as a Kurd. We do not see difference between Kurds and PKK. It is our people who is struggling within PKK against the racism. How do you expect us to distance ourselves? Today the Turkish government is negotiating with PKK. Can we still regard them as a terrorist organisation if even turkey negotiates with them? I think not.

The terrorist lists do not matter to us. We live on the ground. We have seen the reality.

.
Trust me, does not work.
In 1958 in Iraq Abd al Karim Qasim ( Half Kurdish ) got in power by a military coup, made Kurdish an official language and granted them all the rights, yet Mustafa Barzani continued his fight for some nationalistic reason or whatever. Theres no solution which is why it leads to war.

What would be the ideal solution to the Kurdish issue, that would be acceptable for all sides?

Im not asking for his ban or something, he just should stop making pkk propaganda and his lies about Turkish state.
And he should stop calling us racist for no reason.

That is Turkey's internal matter.

That is what i said before, that we as an organization have to follow the international laws and must act accordingly. Therefore we cannot have PKK doing its business here.

As an individual, you are more than welcome to say your opinion. No one would restrict it.

The Kurdish questions is different in all four countries in which Kurds live as a big minority. The Kurdish question in Turkey can be solved through democratic means. As Kurds, we have elected PKK to be our party and Abdullah Öcalan to be our leader. That is why Turkey today is negotiating with Öcalan and not someone else. In fact, the Turkish government and Erdogan has finally understood this and aknowledged this at last. Which is a positive step. And for the 12 months they have been negotiating, there has been no fighting. So, as you can see, it bears fruit.

That is Turkey's internal matter.

And I totaly understand that. I am just correcting you. We, as Kurds, do not regard PKK as a terrorist organisation. That you have to follow international laws is totaly fine. But if xenon believes I am doing propgaganda for PKK, he should back it up with evidence. I am merily telling this from a Kurdish perspective.

What area do you originate from?

You still need a evidence? 70% of your threads are about pkk and how they are ''saving kurds'' and how ''heroic'' they are.

pkk is a terrorist organisation you can deny as much as you want.

I do not think you know the meaning of propaganda. Just point out one thread where I am doing propaganda for any organisation. In fact, most of my topics are about the atrocities committed by the turkish state from neutral sources. That is not propaganda. That is just showing the truth. Again, let me point out; this is not turkey. The truth has to be told and you can not label it or hide behind the '' you are a terrorist supporter'' label here. Here, we are free to speak our minds as long as we use aknowledged and well known sources to back up our topics.

Yes, my personal opinion is that PKK is the savior of our people because prior to PKK, Kurds were getting killed like insects. In fact, the last 12 months have been the most peaceful months in the history of turkey and we can thank the talks between the state and PKK for that. Again, these are just facts, not propaganda. If you think I am wrong, you are more than welcome to prove me false. That is the wonderful thing about discussions.

@Bahoz

For arguments sake, if the talks are a success and Kurds get their rights, would they keep the peace and give up insurgency?

If this is the case than how would it affect the Kurds in other countries in the region?

The peace will come with the total democratisation of Turkey. This is not only about Kurds. It also includes all other ethnic and religious minorities living in Turkey.

There was a withdrawal going on for some months ago in which PKK guerillas were withdrawing from southeastern Kurdish parts of Turkey. But the withdrawal stopped as PKK and Öcalan did not feel sincere steps were being taken by the state. One of the demands from Kurdish side is mother tongue education in Kurdish in schools. This has yet to be secured by law. Personally, I do not even see the problem in letting Kurds get education in their mother tongue. I mean, even during the Ottoman era the Kurds had their own language, schools and script.

It is a slow process but if nobody provocates it, I believe it might succeed.

Kurds in Syria and Turkey are essentially bound together. Their area is pretty much the same and the people are from the same families and affiliations. So the peace process might actually also solve the Kurdish question in Syria.

As for Iran and Iraq, these are totaly different.

I would pray for the success of such a process. We all ought to stabilize the Muslim world so we can get out of the dark ages, the terrorists, the throat slitters, the suicide bombers and pirates.

We had a great civilization, we must rebuild it.

I wish that peace prevails in Turkey and the govt keeps working on building an egalitarian Turkish state.

We can hope the best. The support for the peace process is rather high. Some 90% of Kurds and some 60-70% of Turks support the peace process.
