In all honesty, most Americans don't even know what Bangladesh is. The name it self sounds so foreign, it has no "stan" at the end of it to make it sound like a country. To Americans it sounds like a fruit, some type of animal, or some dish or something.

India has growing economy, Bollywood, and Call centers to make it stand out to Americans. Pakistan well has terrorism, bombings, war in Afghanistan going for to make it stand out. Bangladesh is non-existant.

But I do admit, Bangladesh is strategically located. If Bangladesh plays its cards right, it can have India eating out of its hands and then America will take notice.

First thing Bangladesh can do is get the Chinese to open up a Naval Base in Bangladesh. The Indian reaction to that development will be priceless.

2) If we see no possibility of above ASEAN+, then we will have no choice but to go for the SCO based Sino-Russian-Muslim alliance including Eurasion Union, China, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt etc.

1) Japanese people are averse to taking lead in the ASEAN or Asian matters. Japan's foreign diplomacy has remained at very low ebb since WWII because of people's sentiment. Japan will happily remain in the US influence for the foreseeable future.

2) When even BD muslims cannot speak in one voive, how can one expect all those muslim countries, including a few with TALIBANIC mind, to sit together and speak in one voice. Delhi du'rast, it will not happen.

3) You are right about the big mouth Indians. They think it is their birthright to teach Bangladeshis about international diplomacy. India should remain pet d** sleeping on the lap of its big daddy US.

Do not get disappointed at not seeing a barrage of posts. But, thanks for posting such a brilliantly written piece of article. It conatins almost all the ingredients of what the USA has been thinking all along in terms of BD and India. I now understand why the USA has been doing all the military, airforce and naval joint exercises with BD.

People will certainly see a negativityin the BD-US relationship as it will be used to encircle China. However, I am alright if BD gets a kind of defence umbrella from its big neighbour. People say USA is not a friend of any country, and so it cannot be a friend of BD. I can also speak the same logic and say USA cannot also be a friend of India, too.

I am, myself, not a pessimist about a BD-USA economic and military relationship that somehow guarantees our own security. USA is not that stupid to ask for a bad relationship with China, a trusted friend of BD since the time of Ziaur Rahman. However, since USA wants to buy a piece of gas/oil production in the BoB, therefore, it will see to a peaceful region whereby there is no India-China wars as well as BD-India tensions.

There are many types of people in this world. Some cannot see a meter ahead of them. Like others there are also some bangladeshis like that. We do not have to comment about their judgement. Thing is BD is located at a very important place. Look at the map to see it.

But, some BD people think Hillary is travelling 10,000 km only to persuade BD govt to tow Indian line as if India is at war with China and USA is trying to force BD to side with India. The truth is, USA wants to encircle China from all sides because China is trying to pulliing muscles in the South Pacific and throughout Indian Ocean.

USA wants to make a strong presence in the BoB in order to look over both China and also India. Do not forget to note that USA wants also to encircle India.

i agreed with first part...recent development with mayanmar suggests that..but I don't support your 2nd part..US doesn't have any presence in BOB.and USA don't want to encircle India.because India doesn't have strong presence in world politics and there are still some time when our economy'll be declared as a par of US economy.and Indian development is not aggressive in nature.

35 years ago,China didn't have capability or intention to open in another country.and still,China has small influence on BD.
