They have their passports taken and are paid less than they are in India with prices higher than the US. That is fking insane and is essentially slavery.

Not all companies do that but many workers willingly give their passports to the company (especially workers who live in camps and shared apartments) so as to keep it safe. As for the pay they sign a contract in which it is clearly written how much they will be paid each month. If they are not getting that they can approach Labour court.

The biggest scandal happened 17 years ago in 1993 and ended in 2000 with the arrest of Sister Ping, head of the human smuggling ring, in Hong Kong.

Most of them are from Fujian, which has a tradition of illegal immigration, and no matter how bad the US is, it still has more respect for human rights than Arab monarchies.

You can be the 'frog in the well' and say 'all in well' mantra forever, but its a reality that Chinese are among the top communities who are smuggled to foreign countries especially US.

As for smuggling to the US, Chinese illegal immigration has been down 37% since 2000 and makes up only 1% of all illegal immigrants to the US in the past decade. Indian illegal immigration has up 64% since 2000 and there are 60% more illegal Indians in the US than there are Chinese.
