Srinagar: A fortnight after the killing of two teenage sisters in Sopore, unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night made an abortive attempt to assassinate two girls, including a minor in Kreeri village of north Kashmirs Baramulla district.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Dispatch that pistol borne unidentified men barged into the residence of Mohammad Akbar Akhoon in Duderhama village of Kreeri and opened fire at two girls, identified as Shaista, 18, daughter of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Akhoon and 6-year-old Moumina alais Pinki.
Both the girls were injured in the incident and were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. The doctors described their condition stable.
The girls are stable. They have suffered minor injuries, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kreeri, Dr Khurshid told this correspondent.
Shaistas father is an engineer in the Roads and Buildings department. He had shifted to his fathers house in Duderhama today due to the renovation work at his Model town residence in Sopore.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Dr Haseeb Mughal said that the pistol borne men barged into the residence of Akhoons and fired at two girls.
The girls were shot at by the pistol borne men inside the compound of their house. Were investigating the case, he added.
Pertinently, tonights incident comes a fortnight after unknown gunmen abducted and killed two teenage sisters from their Muslim Peer residence in Sopore town and shot them dead in the neighboring Mohalla Rahim Sahab.
The police blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants for the siblings killing, but the militant outfit rejected the police claims and suspected the hand of the government agencies.
