The Boeing P-8 Poseidon

.
As per resent report...we will start getting P-8A POSEIDON by next year.

.
Now this P-8I Neptune, a variant of the P-8A Poseidon, 30 of which would be delivered by 2020, is a formidable platform and is just awesome!! Be afraid! Very afraid......

Cheers!

So when will the P-8I will be arriving and I have heard that INAF is in talks with boeing for the purchase of about 22 more to fulfil the requirement of 30 MPAs of the INAF.

Well As of Today India Plans to Induct only 12 P8I
Though Government Has given the Go ahead for purchase of 9 more ASW and Recon Aircrafts with option for another 6-9 , but it is not guaranteed that they will be P8I , though P8I is a contender for this deal also , but Indian Navy is looking at a smaller platform for this tender , since they are meant to replace 5 IL38 and 9 Dorniers , which are relatively small compared to Tu-142 which will be replaced by P8I

.
I think INAF could go for 30 P-8Is as well as some smaller ones too from Russian origin.

.
what why is this posted in Indian defence? US received that plane and its P8A not the indian version. I dont see a place for it in this section

.
I wish Pakistan could also get them after all Pakistan has done for US. It would boast Pak navy capabilities many folds.

Let me clear the confusion, India has ordered 8 P-8I (Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Anti Submarine Warfare platform )and the approval for the follow-on buy of 4 is expected by the end of this fiscal year (March 2012), and ultimately, India will want another 12 planes to bring their P-8i fleet to 24.

Other than that Navy is looking for 9 medium range maritime patrol aircraft

Find details on this thread http://www.defence.pk/forums/indian...nge-maritime-patrol-aircraft-navy-rfps-b.html

And India operates 8 ultra Long-range ASW aircraft Tu-142ME

Then there are many squadrons of Heron and Searcher Mk-II UAVs

These are pet projects of PM Dr. Manmohan Singh himself because after the 2008 Mumbai attacks led to formation of multi-tiered maritime surveillance to make the system fool proof. P8I is a very potent Anti-Submarine Warfare platform on top of surveillance.

I think the final numbers for the P-8Is will be 30 and the 9 number for the medium ones will double too. India has a huge cost and in the future most of the world expect that the Indian Ocean would require some more security as it will be one of the biggest trade routes. I am sure because of that reason they are planning for so much MPAs...
I also had a wish that if PAC has produced a twin propeller engine plane with 7 blades on each engine that has the similar range, payload with composites with China for MPA, AEW&C and ELINT role. Then PN would have 11 MPAs and 3-5 AEW&Cs along with some 7 smaller MPAs...

.
A wild guess, but I think I saw somewhere that P-8I's would be armed with BrahMos?
Anyone?

So the requirement of 30 is going to be fulfilled with the P-8Is thats for sure like with the C-130Js as Russians as well as Ukranians have refused to join the Indians.
How could the Ukranians help them with a LRMR?

.
Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the difference between P-8A and P-8I ?

.
The P-8A emerged from the ashes of the P-7 Long Range Air ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) Capable Aircraft

The P-8A has its own industrial team, and most of them will also be involved in the P-8i project. A number of electronic and sensor systems will differ, however, due to a combination of Indian insistence on indigenous content, and American security concerns that forced the use of alternatives. Industrial partners in India, or specific to India’s version, reportedly include:
