The Big 'Make In India' Submarine Hunt 3.0

petroliyam based boats are called SSKs. Nuke attack subs are called SSN. Nuke strategic subs(long range missile) are called SSGN. Ballstic missile nuke subs are called SSBN. Thank you.

thank you for that. i have always been confused about them. :D

.
That being said; the Soryus are not in contention, they are simply too expensive. While the Shin-Meiwas are in the running solely because of their capabilities and the lack of similar aircraft world-wide.
We are paying almost 1.4 billion per sub.So how is Sóryú more expensive than that?

. . . .
(3) countries involved in or likely to be involved in international conflicts

So Japan will only sell weapons to countries that will not use them after buying?

.
most prbabally its gonna be scorpene + subs for this latest contract and these ones will have DRDO made AIP + VLS

Not really. They will have to certify that at the moment of sale there is no conflict brewing...

But its a BIG issue for spares, maintenance and weapons later on when in conflict time one really needs them the most. So that clause is definite a dealbreaker.

But fundamentally, what's the logic behind selling weapons only to countries that won't need them? Any product is sold to customers who need it. This is like making sanitary napkins exclusively for men.

Fundamentally the logic is not sell arms to conflict zones, similar to the german stance, only worse.

Guess it stems from the peaceful constitution bit.

The Japanese really need to learn about ''peaceful rise'' from china ;)

That is the clause given. Talk to the ministry of foreign affairs in Japan.
