What's new

The Battle of Plassey

Guten Tag,

I read this first:
"The British Indian Army from 1757 to 1857, its ethnic composition and its famous battles;
The British Indian Army from 1857 to 1947, its ethnic composition and its famous battles."

@John Doe

In this context there is an excellent piece by the famous Pakistani historian A H AMIN:

The Sepoy Rebellion of 1857-59

I assure you gentlemen that you will appreciate this article:-)
Auf Wiedersehen!

It is high time that we commenced this new thread and seeing how you came straight into the net is suggestive.

There was a long-past agreement with a very knowledgeable member named Gunner to start a thread on the class composition of the old Indian Army. Because of sheer incompetence, this has never materialised.

Can you print the A. H. Amin article as the start to a new thread, and we will all pitch in thereafter?

Much obliged.
Warm regards,

.
@Joe S,
I request you to go ahead with opening the new thread under your name with Amin's article.
If I did it, other than the first post I'd have nothing else to add, since I know nothing about this topic!
With best regards.

I had rather hoped that you would take it up, for the simple reason that it then is easy to add to what is started already, but you too have a point. If CaptainPopeye and Gunner could kindly suggest where to open the thread, under which heading, I shall try to do it at the soonest. A little time to read up on the subject would have been nice, but obviously nobody gets the time needed to do anything needed as it should be done. En avant, then, to change the spate of Teutonic fervour which has recently overwhelmed us.

Another question, this time to our friends from Bangladesh led by eastwatch who had asked the question about the famine of 1770 and its effects on Bengal's history. I would like to consider those issues separately, and would value your suggestion where.

With hopeful thanks,

@ Joe,
Thanks for remembering me; though i wonder if i match up to the honour.
Nevertheless one suggestion for a working title: Martial Races theory; its relevance to military operations in the Sub-Continent.
Other suggestions obviously, will be more than welcome.

This is also an interesting topic which deserves some exposition. And on a personal note, one that i know little about. The title seems to be there in what you have already written, the underlined part.

Of course there was the 1942-43 situation, about which i read a little and heard a bit about from a person in the family who was tasked with overseeing rail-movements at the time, with a ring-side view. He had a notable career in that organisation rising to the top till he was pitch-forked in to one of India's strategic organisations where he worked for approx. 18 years (on extension).
