What's new

The Armor Division of Pakistan Army

Higher actually. Besides US & Italy, PA even converted M106A2's acquired from Jordan into APCs. :D

No, these use the existing types.

However, M109L's do fit here.
:D

Here are some more (just saw on wiki)

Switzerland: M106 with a 120mm mortar, known as 12 cm Mw Pz 64 (Minenwerferpanzer 64) and 12 cm Mw Pz 64/91. 132 bought, retired from service in 2009.

Actually, its more of a mix...mix of 2+2, 2+1, and 1 +2..keeping in view their assigned roles and areas where they have to operate.

And the infantry divisions with such bdes must be 15, 10, 33, 16, 18, 14 and 35. :-)

OK
Arent these "new" MechBrigs in InfDivs born from joining a MIB to allready existing LATBn(converting to M113 BS) & ArmReg?
Arent MechDivs operating with 3 similar MechBrigs and 1 ArmRecceReg?
Arent ArmRecceRegs operating with some 26 MBTs instead of 35?
Thanks

Nopes. LAT units (already M113/BS) stay there. There was no MIB in an infantry Division. So you can well imagine from where APCs for these new MIBs came.

Mechanized Divisions are operating with 3 proper armor heavy brigades. Recce regiment is also there, directly under command Division.

Recce Regiments do not have 26 MBTs (thats not even equal to two Squadrons).

Do please 44 Inf Div to your ORBAT as well.
Try finding all Armr Bdes....14, 15,16, 17, etc etc, a long list...... 25, 124....list goes on.....

@Gryphon Surprised?
I am!
All T59/T59MI/T59MII/T69IIMP must be operatinal and converting to Al-Zarrar, instead of being replaced.
Add existing AZ/AK/AKI/T85IIAP & T80UD, and it makes a lot of tanks.
Thanks for the imput.

They have actually 37 tanks in total.

And apart from 37 tanks, they also pack a nice punch in the form of anti tank firepower (ATGMs).

But dear, this report is from 1983. A lot has changed since then.
Yes, I understand.
But a Division with 7 Armoured Regiments makes the ground shake for several kms.
Unleashing such formation in the front line must be a very dificult decision. After they start, its a nightmare to turn it around. Poor Infantry to open the Breach (with Artillery Division support). When it gets to stop for sleep/rest or resupply, the InfDiv comming to protect them will have a bad time to hold the ground.

The 3rd AB can be detached.
