Turkish Aerospace and Aviation Industries (TAI) has unveiled the images of the first Turkish domestic fighter, expected to fly in the skies for the first time in 2023.

Turkish media reported on Thursday that the plane will replace US F-16s by 2030.

The fighter, named "Tfx" of the fifth generation, will be manufactured from composite materials, to have the characteristics of the possibility of the disappearance of electronic waves and radars.

According to the news, the two-engine fighter was designed in such a way that the rockets and ammunition they carry are not visible and are expected to fly in the air by 2023, and the duration of the tests is about two years.

The fighter project is the most important Turkish project in the field of military and air industries in the last ten years, and will replace the F-16 fighter aircraft, used by the Turkish air force since 1988.

Turkey's Aerospace Industries and BAE Systems signed a 100 million pound ($ 129 million) deal in January to develop the TFX fighter.

BAE Systems is a multinational defense and aerospace company based in London with branches all over the world and one of the world's largest defense companies.

he possibly thinks that this is not the final design concept, but only an illustration.

Most likely because no final design has been shown yet.. but it shows at least that Turkey will go for a twin engine based 5th generation fighter..

Turkey will go for a twin engine

Yes, no doubt. That was confirmed from Minister Isik. There is no country which can copy F-22 and has enough funds. A Raptor's price is 250 Mio USD. I believe that we will go building a plane comparable to an high evolved F-15 with multirole capability, partly stealth and state of the art electronics and weapons. TAI and TEI will profit from experience producing F-16.s and engine parts and overhaul. Maybe BAE will accelerate the process ( knowledge in composite fibres - Rolly Royce engines).
So it will be a national warplane but not 100 % domestic made and with imported engines.
Otherwise the target timeschedule 2023 is too short.
2030 would optimistic calculated be possible to mention the airplane tech transfered true domestic with self produced engines.
Nobody can build a 5.th gen aircraft from zero to product 100 % domestic in 10 years. You need 20 -30 years and Billions of R&D budget.
I believe they will follow the same way as they did in the domestic Helicopter project.

Actually Turkey will build a full fledged 5th generation fighter, since they were associates in making the F-35 and furthermore they got the contract to maintain the whole European fleet of F-35s..

Well, they have started the program at least 12 years ago, so yes for a prototype in 2020..
Thanks someone already posted a video of ~ 45 min Temel Kotil talking about TFX.

2023 prototype first flight - Rolls Royce engine.
2030 serial productions with domestic engines.

* Search previous pages pls.

I do understand that.. it is first flight, but there are many other tests to be conducted before a first flight.. so 2020 for tests starts is possible too..
