BTW, this $5,000 EV is the cheapest expressway-legal 4 seater EV available on this planet.
Price range from 28,888 cny (4,234 usd) to 38,888 cny (5,700 usd) with a range of 120-170km depending on models.

Great car. Mostly used as a second family car for housewives to pickup their kids from school and buying groceries, etc. although you can drive it on the highway with a speed of 100+ kph.

Beutiful or ugly, it is a subjective issue. A lot of people like this boxy design, just like the K-cars, great use of space and very practical design. And you don't want a $5,000, actually a $4,000 'sporty' car, do you?

The OP is sad because his beloved Tesla fell into 2nd position in EV sales here in China, although still sold ~10,000 per month here... This baby sold ~15,000 the first month of launching, with 50,000 on booking list.
However, I don't think he has to worry too much about this, because we Chinese are not like indians, who would add motorcycle or 3 wheelers sales to their 'auto' sales figure... We know the difference between the sales of ~10,000 Tesla vs this tiny cute baby car...

This car is no threat to Tesla. It might be small and cheap but it barely seats 2 people and needs charging daily.

Let's see when thier $25K car comes out.

Personally I expect people to commute much less so vehicles like this will have a reduced market.

Judging from the average annual salary of workers in the public sector, it is 90,501 cny per year in 2019, assuming 2 workforce per family, that is 181,000 cny per year, and with the expenses deducted, I think vast majority of such families have no problem to afford a 149,800 cny car. Those work in the private sectors may earn less, could still afford to buy a car of 149,800 cny price tag, but takes longer period of savings:

For the price of EV, I think Chinese car companies today produce the most value for money EVs in the world, partially due to China's huge battery industry, and the low price of auto parts, etc.
As for the range, you can multiply it by 1.4 to be comparable to the NCED range as it is tested using EPA method, which will make it 450km.

Makes no sense. Small and little cars don't sell in the volumes needed in the US. Americans are HUGE. Those who are not HUGE are often quite well off and would buy a more expensive option. Better to only sell it in China. I say only China because most nations don't even have reliable electrical grids. Of those that do electricity is often really expensive.

In the US it will be your county health dept. (same folks who do store and restaurant healthy safety inspections and assign grades like 'A','B', 'C' etc.).
