Tesla’s Nemesis in China Is a Tiny $5,000 Electric Car From GM

That's why I emphasized "some European cities". You know Paris and Florence are European cities, right?

Even in Paris and Florence, newer areas don't have issues.

So - the operative word should be newer/older areas in all cities.

Most of the world cannot demolish older neighborhoods and make wide boulevards at the whim of the central govt.

They have preservation laws on the books. For tourist business or simply for preserving the look of older neighborhoods (which are worth preserving).

it's too ugly, should have gone for a sportier look. How many miles can it do per charge?

It's a $5000 car. What are we asking for that amount? :-)

$30,000 EVs in the US can only do 250 miles on a charge, for $5000 it's doing plenty...

Are you serious? Have you ever seen the size of the vehicles in the US???

These are the top selling vehicles in the US last year.

I don't think Chinese brother here has ever visited the US...

They don't allow that small a car in the US on the roads. It needs to pass minimum safety requirements (collision standards etc.). No insurance co. will insure this thing.

The best pizza shops in Florence are in the old city. Even Italians living in the new city have to go to the old city to buy food to avoid "Hawaiian style pizza" with pineapples. At this time, small cars will be of value.

I spent two years in Nova Scotia, Canada. I admit that there are not many people in Halifax who will buy such cars, but not in places like Sydney. I spent a summer at the seaside in Sydney, where the local people have a lot of ATVs. Regardless of power and top speed, The compact car also has air conditioning and a fully enclosed enclosure, which ensures that it can be used in the long winter in Canada rather than in the summer like ATV.There are so many elderly people there. A low-cost car with simple operation is still very attractive.

Talon 1000X
When a two seater ATV made in Japan costs nearly $30000, a $5000 car doesn't look so bad.

It would be better if you don't need a license plate. Halifax's car insurance is too expensive. The total price of the car I bought at the beginning was less than $30000, but the annual insurance would be close to $5000. I'm sure the insurance for this car will be very cheap.

The article says it does 107 miles per charge. It's intended to look like a practical vehicle not intended to be an eye turner.
The manufacturing cost of adding a few curves is not too much of an addition, this shape China used to produce in 2005 when I was researching importing electric cars into Pakistan.

I don't think a new car worth more than $20000 is affordable to 40 million poor Americans living on food stamps. Of course, if you're talking about second-hand cars and these poor people don't have houses but live in cars, I admit they will even own a RV.

I don't think ANY vehicle is affordable in a country where > 700M people moved from "extreme poverty" into just "poverty". They are lucky to have a bicycle and shoes.

Anymore off-topic "smart" answers?

I'm pretty sure a car like that would not pass a crash test. This is like when car companies make a super cheap version of their cars for the African/South American/Asian markets.

Make a buck by selling a substandard car to the unsuspecting masses...what could go wrong.

It is probably designed to Chinese tastes since it is for the Chinese market. 120 km
Perhaps Chinese are similar to the Japanese in that they like both the boxy look and small machines.
People are not the same have different preferences and needs.
For example, To sell to the Americans companies have to make HUGE vehicles so the American can squeeze inside.

That tiny Smart Car had the highest crash ratings. Far better than many/most NA made cars.

Well what happens when you hit a sedan
It's like a batter hitting a ball.

haha but that bugger in the ball is actually okay.

btw my post is the one that is incorrect. You said cheap cars are dangerous. You never said little cars. You are most certainly correct about that.

Your poor information reserves send a dangerous signal to the members of this forum: it will damage the brain to show love and listen to the opinions of Indians frequently. I remember that the IQ of Americans is over 90, but what you said is no different from that of 76,you make judgments based on your own imagination rather than by verifying the data.

Car parc in China from 2009 to 2019

China's car ownership is 258 million (clearly licensed cars, excluding motorcycles and tricycles). Considering that most Chinese families have 3-4 people, if each family has only one car, the median number of 3.5 * 2.58 = 903 million people have cars at home.
