NEW YORK: There is growing evidence that battle-hardened extremists are filtering out of safe havens along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and into East Africa, bringing sophisticated terrorist tactics that include suicide attacks.

The alarming shift, according to U.S. military and counterterrorism officials, fuels concern that Somalia is increasingly on a path to become the next Afghanistan _ a sanctuary where al-Qaida-linked groups could train and plan their threatened attacks against the western world.

So far, officials say the number of foreign fighters who have moved from southwest Asia and the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region to the Horn of Africa is small, perhaps two to three dozen.

American officials already are seeing extremist factions in East Africa sharing information and techniques.

Several US military and counterterrorism officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence matters cautioned that the movements of the al-Qaida militants do not suggest an abandonment of the ungoverned Pakistan border region as a safe haven.

Instead, the shift is viewed by the officials more as an expansion of al-Qaida's influence, and a campaign to gather and train more recruits in a region already rife with militants.

americans have one more chance to intervene in strategic horn of Africa

it proves that al qaida through out its history promoted westren strategic intrests , createing conditions ideal for intervension

.
i wish i could charter planes and send all terrorists over to east africa.....like i said in another thread that till where will US chase these terrorists!!!

.
Well, that's interesting, it's like a swarm, pesticide, moving from one place to another, they're not wanted, nowhere.

.
yes and to give them importance and attention the US is chasing them everywhere like i said before they will chase them all around the world and end up in the US.....

.
it would have made a lot more sence if it was 'terrorists moving from africa to afghanistan'
when US decided to increase number of troops there, these ppl have started leaving afghanistan... does it really make sence???

.
i think US think tank is losing it!!!!!!!!!!!

.
This could be true because they are fealing the punch from PA in the mountain region.

People think PA is not doing enough but alot has been done.

.
Recently PA has started to take action against the Terrorists who were trying to take on Buner, finally its good that GOP & PA has said enough is enough and have taken action against these Terrorists, so what is the best option left for thses Terrorists, is to go and lok for some other place to keep their evil activities on. If what ever said in the above article is true then it would be really good for pakistan. :enjoy:

.
this is a very flued situation. where ever there is instability they will go there. i really feel sorry for my own people and the people of the horn of africa who are going to become there unfortunate hosts.

. .
Every time US starts talking or killing they raise opponents. And in the end the virus will get bigger and bigger. Like latest article of the real decendents of Ghandi and Musharraf said... Pakistan is a victim. Helping financiall and military would be wiser then butchering it with uav's and negative publicity...

how are they moving to somalia. are the somali pirates picking them up from the baluchistan coast or what!:enjoy::cheesy:

.
these terrorists are not a huge body that moves here and there, they are small cells that can emerge everywhere, that's why they are so hard to defeat.
So I believe the US is up to no good again, using this as an excuse.
Maybe they are slowly diverting attention to Africa so they can pull out of Afghanistan without loosing face?

.
besides that, Sudan is slowly emerging as a factor in the area, and their alliance is certainly not to the West. Both Iran and China are present there, and Sudan acts as a source for supplying Palestinian fighters in Gaza with weapons through Hezbollah, which is also present in Sudan.
Of course the present state of Somalia is also a factor, with muslim insurgency and pirates roaming the seas of the Somali coast.
I don't know about you guys, but I am slowly seing a pattern here.
