In a broader sense based on the experience with the Mongols and the Spaniards the record of the survival of Islam is mostly positive . After 200 years the Mongols succumbed and converted. The Spaniards did not. Their Reconquista was successful. 600 years later Islam is back in Spain though in a far more modest way. However globally the conversion of Hispanics to Islam is very encouraging.
