RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military spokesman on Thursday alluded to India’s support of terrorism in Balochistan and FATA.
Speaking at a press conference, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa said that Pakistan was not currently in a condition to “heat up things” along the Line of Control (LoC), its eastern borders with neighboring India.
He said that India was “playing a dangerous game” by increasing tensions along the LoC at a time when Pakistan was conducting an all-out operation against terrorism.
“They are doing this with a design. We have condemned this several times through our Foreign Office previously and have protested through several channels. We have tried to explain to them that this is a dangerous game they are playing,” he said.
[India] is supporting terrorism in Balochistan and Fata. We have warned them at every level – political leadership, diplomacy, military…even the common man is clear about the dangerous game they are playing,” he said.
“This is an attempt to distract Pakistan because Pakistan is heading towards eliminating terrorism,” he said.
Six APS attackers still at large
Briefing the media on progress of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Major General Asim Bajwa said the military operation was successfully underway and major areas of North Waziristan have been cleared of terrorists.
The DG ISPR said that 27 militants were involved in the Peshawar school attack of whom six were killed the same day, three were killed in Khyber Agency while 12 others were taken into custody. He added that six militants were still at large.
He said that that the orders for this deadly attack were issued by TTP chief Mullah Fazlullah and that him and Aurangzeb alias Omar were in Afghanistan. He went on to say that it was their number one demand from Afghanistan that Fazlullah is either killed or captured and handed over to Pakistan.
Bajwa maintained that six suicide bombers of the attack stayed in the house of an imam of a mosque. He said that Asif alias Haji Kamran was made commander of the attack, who constituted two groups.
He further said that the leader of one group identified as Atiqur Rehman has been arrested while the head of the other group, Hazrat Ali carries a bounty of Rs 2.5 million on his head.
The DG ISPR went on to say that more than 1900 intelligence based operations were also carried out across the country in which 5000 suspects were arrested.
He said that there is a plan to send back Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by March this year.
He also said that 226 personnel of the Pakistan Army were martyred and 813 sustained injuries in the operation. He said 176 hardcore terrorists have been killed while the number of other terrorists is not ascertained.
