Ten-year national development strategy prepared: Gen. Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (APP)- President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday announced that a ten-year national development strategy has been formulated to kick start the national industry, growth of national economy and rapid socio-economic uplift. Giving details in his address to the District Nazims and Naib-Nazims, at the Convention Center, he said the strategy would enable to generate employment and help contain poverty alleviation. He said fund allocation for the next three years of these projects has been made. ââ¬ÅThe fast track development projects are to be completed within the next three to five years,ââ¬Â he added. Gen. Musharraf announced that he would embark on a countrywide visit from August 15 to 21 during which he would perform launching of nine mega projects. These include foundation-laying of Gomal Zam Dam, Mirani Dam, Greater Thal Canal, Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD), Makran Coastal Highway, inauguration of Chashma Right Bank Canal, expediting completion of the ongoing Quetta Water Supply Project and ground breaking ceremonies of three main roads in the Northern Areas and construction of Turbat-Mand Road. Besides, he said finalization of feasibility report of other development projects is underway, and these would be launched in due course of time. These include Katchhi canal in Balochistan, Rainy canal in Sindh and raising of Mangla Damââ¬â¢s level by 40 feet, Karachi water supply scheme, Northern bypass and Lyari Expressway, as well as construction of M-3 and M-4 sections of motorway, Gwadur-Turbat road providing linkage to Karachi market, launching of Gawadar deepsea port agreement for which had been reached with China and launching of Thar Coal Project, etc. General Musharraf said that some 20 nation-building projects are to be launched from August 15 to March 23, 2002. Taking up in hand of these development projects, he stated, would generate one million job opportunties, while the endeavour would help kick start industry and boost production and consumption of cement, steel and bricks etc. ââ¬ÅThis nation-building endeavour will usher the country into a new era of rapid development and uplift,ââ¬Â he added.
