Tejas Express gets an upgrade: A year after Indian Railways introduced its first semi-high speed aircraft-like luxury Tejas Express, the second rake of this futuristic train is ready! Tejas Express, introduced on the Mumbai-Goa route was a welcome step by Indian Railways to offer safety, better speed and aircraft-like luxury - all in one train. Tejas Express boasted of several passenger friendly features such as personalised LCD entertainment-cum-information screens with headphones, on board WiFi, modular bio-toilets, comfortable seats etc. The new Tejas Express which is all set to roll out is a step ahead of the first one. Financial Express Online brings you an exclusive sneak peek into the new Tejas Express with its upgraded features:

The interior of the new Tejas Express train has been revamped with the seats getting a new colour scheme. The colour scheme of orange and yellow - similar to the exterior - has been maintained for the seats as well. Also, unlike the first train, the seats of the new Tejas Express have a fabric covering, instead of leather-like material.

Tejas Express chair car coaches have comfortable seats with reclining facility. The only difference is that the Executive Chair car seats also have an attached leg rest.
04 / 16
Tejas Express continues to offer personalised LCD screens for passenger entertainment and information system. This is despite the fact that the LCD screens on Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express were spoiled multiple times by passengers. The Railway Board had taken the decision to remove them from Tejas Express trains but according to RCF Kapurthala, the orders for these LCD screens had already been placed.

The windows of the new Tejas Express will have automatic venetian blinds. Passengers will be provided with a button next to the window, which can be used to roll the Venetian blinds up and down.
06 / 16
The new Tejas Express will have automatic interconnecting doors between the coaches. This new feature is aimed at facilitating inter-coach movement both for passengers and railway staff.
07 / 16
The exterior of the Tejas Express is unchanged from the 2017 Mumbai-Goa version. The train continues to boast an attractive yellow and orange anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping.

The interior of the new Tejas Express too has been equipped with anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping - a step that will help in maintaining cleanliness in the train.

Like the earlier Tejas Express, this one too has aircraft-like attendant calling buttons and adjustable personalised reading lights above every seat.
10 / 16
The new Tejas Express train, like the earlier version, has a modular bio-vacuum toilet with sensor-based tap fittings.
11 / 16
The mini pantry in the new Tejas Express will continue to offer soup along with tea and coffee.
12 / 16
Based on the LHB platform. Tejas Express coaches have anti-climbing features, making them safer in case of an accident.
13 / 16
Other features of Tejas Express include; fire and smoke detection and suppression system, LED lighting, CCTV systems, dust sealed gangways, mobile charging and USB points for every seat, integrated Braille displays, toilet occupancy indicators and electronic passenger reservation chart.

In an earlier interaction with Financial Express Online, RCF Kapurthala GM Prakash Trivedi had described Tejas Express coaches as 'SMART'. Part of Indian Railways Specific Modified Aesthetic Reform Travel (SMART) programme, the Tejas Express coaches can attain speeds of 200 kmph - making them future ready!
15 / 16
Tejas Express coaches have automatic entry and exit doors similar to those in metro networks. These doors offer enhanced safety as they prevent boarding and deboarding unless the train is at the platform.

While some reports suggest that the new Tejas Express will run between Delhi-Chandigarh, the route has not yet been decided. Sources in the Railway Board told Financial Express Online that both Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Lucknow routes - as announced in the Railway timetable - are being considered. A final decision on this will be taken by May-end
