The Indian Air Force may have deployed indigenously built Tejas Mk-1 aircraft at Awantipura forward airbase in Jammu and Kashmir.

The IAF's Western Air Command shared a tweet about the AOC-in-C Air Marshal PM Sinha visiting the Awantipura forward airbase, where the Air Marshal Sinha could be seen inspecting a Tejas Mk-1 fighter jet.

This is interesting since until now, it was believed that the Tejas was only based at the Sulur Air Force base in Tamil Nadu.
Sulur Air base is home to the IAF's 45 squadron 'Flying Daggers' and 18 squadron 'Flying Bullets', equipped with initial operational clearance (IOC) and final operational clearance (FOC) versions of the Tejas fighter jet, respectively.

Earlier in August 2020, various reports said that the IAF had deployed IOC Tejas fighters belonging to the 45 Squadron 'Flying Daggers' to a forward air base on the western border in the aftermath of the Galwan clash in June 2020, and the resulting border standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Their deployment suggests that the IAF now fully trusts the aircraft's capabilities, and is now ready to deploy them at forward airfield opposite India's adversaries.

In a further display of trust in the aircraft's capabilities, the Indian Air Force has already ordered 83 Tejas Mk-1A jets in 2021, valued at over Rs 48,000 crore, with the first deliveries expected in 2024.

These new Tejas Mk-1A will have 40 major improvements compared to the Tejas Mk-1.

They will have an active electronically-scanned array radar for detecting enemy aircraft at greater ranges and resistance to jamming, a new advanced self protection jamming suite (ASPJ), a digital flying control computer (DFCC), as well as, faster turnaround times for each aircraft after every sortie.

Even the Tejas MK1 with the EL/M-2032 and Astra Mk1/I- Derby ER is well suited to the DCA role in the Northern sector. On top of that it is now cleared for a number of PGMs as well for air interdiction. Tejas Mk1A with its AESA and SPJ will more than hold its own against PAF fighters.

Jamming pods that DRDO has developed for LCA MK1A and SU-30 MKI are based on GaN T/R modules. Confirmed by a DRDO scientist @3:27:

We have achieved something which even French do not have. Our Rafale's SPECTRA has GaA jamming, whilst our LCA Mk1A will have GaN based HBJ pods/EW suite from its first model next year. These ASPJ/HBJ pods we've developed for LCA-Mk-1A & Su-30MKI are both capable of transmitting and receiving, thus consisting of both TX and RX antennas.

This configuration would allow both the fighters to do cross-eye jamming much effectively, thereby deceiving the enemy radar by creating false targets.
MKI is already a very powerful jet, just imagine the kind of jamming power at its disposal with GaN EW suite. It will have power to make even AESA LPI radars and AESA missile seekers totally ineffective like SPECTRA

Hal Tejas is just similar capable to jf 17.

And only good at western borders but Chinese are having much better capable Aircrafts, we need more alike Rafale Or early as possible, Hal Tejas mk2 fighters

It replaces Mig21 and it will have same fate as Mig21, Insha Allha.

Tejas Mk1 has 3 axis Digital Fly-By-Wire (roll, yaw & pitch) while the initial versions of JF-17 only have pitch axis digital FBW and not digital in other two axis. Tejas’ control law is one of the bests in the world in general
The flight characteristics is something that is continuously improving because the major cause of delay was also the biggest advantage, because the west denied us access to whole algorithms which has led DRDO to develop its own digital FBW here in India itself. It's all ours only. That means every hour an LCA flies, more data is collected and the software improved. This has already lead to an improvement in Angle of Attack by 1.5 degrees. The Computers have been improved to take control of the aircraft and bring it back into flight envelope.... So hopefully Mig21 like accidents won't happen during its operational

PLAAF airfields like Gar Gunsa, Shigatse and Lhasa are situated at altitudes well above 11,000 feet. What military utility they offer is questionable. An airplane and human being is identically affected by altitude. Both start puffing and panting with an increase in altitude. The load-carrying capacity drops markedly. Due to high actual air speed at an altitude corresponding to the same indicated airspeed, landing and take-off runs are excessively long.
If PLAAF looses Ngari-Gunsa, there is no other airbase within 650km on either side to support Eastern Ladakh and Central Sector

Indian have best of the bests equipment in their inventory, but never able to perform accordingly.
Still remember, when Indian got Phalcon awacs from Israel. Claim was that PAF is finished, PAF aircrafts won't able to fly from their basis.
Everything was proven otherwise and 'Abhinonedone' made the history.
Best equipment and how and who to use the best equipment are different entities.
Perfection is not a part of this world, pros and cons are always part of this cruel world.

Nah, frankly, presently, the Pakistan JF fighters have an advantage over Hal Tejas in some respects.

But frankly, both aircraft look very vintage and old... I am not a fan of both.

Saab Gripen, Rafale, EU fighter, and J10 are much better designs and capable Aircraft.

And China has really good aircraft in their inventory, including the Chinese version of the Su27/30. They are well equipped with BVR missiles.

Hal Tejas is definitely not good enough to deal with them.. It can be part of a strike mix group, but alone is not enough.

You can't conclude that based on Feb, 2019, it was a mixture of better tactics and planning by paf... It was a hit-and-run situation, with Pakistan's F16 covering the border with 110 km BVR missiles.

This incident can never be concluded for anything. Such a small incident can even win against USA by any air force if just happens for a few mins.

But it also shows the reality to IAF, and where they are totally outdated..

Example -1: Having bVr missiles with a range of more than 80 kilometers as opposed to paf missiles with a range of 110 kilometers.

2. insecure communication network in Mig-21 and other aircraft

3. Available AWACS aircraft were not sufficient...... Etc... There were a few more..

More or less, it was good for IAF to open their eyes. but it cost losing a Mig 21.. It was totally embarrassing for them.

Nah, frankly presently pak jf fighters have advantage over Hal Tejas on sone respects.

Will be only best comparison after 19 years of service of jf 18 bk3 and hal Tejas mk1a... But now, jf has definitely edge over it.

But frankly, both Aircrafts look very vintage designs, and old... I am not a fan of both.

Even I believe hat the jf17's design is superior to that of the HAL Tejas.

It was actually created by the Chinese aerospace industry, and their experience building a variety of aircraft is clearly evident.

JF17 2 currently has a significant advantage over HAL Tejas Mk1. with more than ten years of flying experience.

When both HAL Tejas mk1a and JF 17 block 3 are operational and have been in service for at least five years, they can be compared because their capabilities are nearly similrar.

Once more, Can HAL Tejas defends these Chinese planes "AA missile over 150 km{?

Chinese will always have the first opportunity to hit the fighter, regardless of what the Hal Tejas mk1 with its 80 km range or the upgraded Astra mk1 with its 110 km range missiles can do.

Even I am not pleased with our planners, who are only capable of flying air to air missiles with a maximum range of 110 km. With the newest radar and longer-range air-to-air missiles, the Su 30 mki can readily be upgraded, but these babus simply talk. Avoid action.

Why do you believe that Air engages with happen over the Himalayas only?

it can be over Indian Punjab, kashmir etc or over Chinese other airspace during the airstrike.

A delta flying straight and fast is nothing big to boast about. PAF’s 50 year old Mirages are still the best fire and flee aircraft in the entire inventory

Are you saying that the IAF’s Su 33s MiG 29s Mirage 2Ks and Tejas are not good? That around 370 aircraft add another 50 odd Mig21s. So a total of around 420 planes are dogs?

The case is, at such high altitudes, you need a minimum speed to maintain enough lift to not stall. Maneuvers and other things require even higher relative speed to the wing.

So, the higher the altitude, thinner the air, greater the stall speed. Now, the problem does not end here. Due to the high variability of temperature throughout the day (freezing cold at night and ~20 deg. in day), combined with humidity conditions, the density of air keeps on changing dynamically, which cause erratic lift patterns, especially for aircraft with a low aerofoil (fighter jets).

To water down what I wrote above, a fighter jet will be able to take off with a long runway run in morning and evening timeframes, at noon, it might overshoot the runway with the same payload.

Ah, did I mention higher take-off and landing speeds (required for high-altitude runaways) cause more wear-and-tear of landing gear and frequent tire bursts ?

For eight months in a year (September to April), PLAAF air operations will be severely affected due to extremely low temperatures, icy strong surface winds, and extensive ice accumulation over the runway.

Many of their airfields are affected by extensive fog. Sustained day/night operations are virtually impossible.
