exactly - if taliban get him, they might keep him alive for a long while while using him as a bait and ambush any troops trying to retrieve him. so the captive should be content to learn that he can stay alive as long as brits still try to save him (that is no insurance against torture, though)

before anglo-saxons are backstabbed by anglo-americans, they just won't know how long and how sharp the yankees' knives are, and it is certainly in anglo-americans' interests that anglo-saxons overreact to that harry something's death in afghanistan and make a major commitment that can get anglo-americans out of the war.

Actually no. He is a soldier and he has to go where ordered to. Historically speaking, it was not uncommon for kings and princes to go to battle with the men till very recently. I doubt that prince Harry is a part of the think tank that decided to invade Afghanistan. He is just another helicopter pilot. It is the Taliban who have showed their true worth by threatening to torture and murder a soldier taken prisoner in battle. But no one expects anything else from them really.
