Tajikistan offers to invest in Pakistani energy sector

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday said his country was ready to extend all cooperation for setting up power plants in Pakistan.

Talking to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, President Rahmon said Tajikistan could establish a 600MW hydel plant straightaway and another plant of 220MW later.

He said in view of his talks in Pakistan this week and the longstanding demand of the business communities of the two countries, Tajikistan would soon set up its consulate general in Karachi.

Mr Rahmon said he had discussed with local businessmen the problems faced by them regarding efforts to promote trade between Tajikistan and Pakistan. He said the two countries should try to enhance cooperation in the agriculture sector, particularly in the area of livestock.

Chief Minister Shah told the visiting dignitary that Karachi boasted two seaports, the Karachi Port and the Bin Qasim Port, both of which were being utilised by business communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and even countries of Central Asia.

The chief minister was of the view that business forums of the two countries could play a vital role in strengthening bilateral trade and business ties.

Instead of KARACHI which already has traffic they should use gwadar port which was supposed to be the port for the Central Asian Republics. The government should at-least ask them to assist in the road projects for gwadar :hitwall:

but we will not accept this offer
corrupt govt did not need this electricity

.
no offense to my tajiki brothers but with what money?
They are the poorest former soviet republic and their GDP is less than 5 billion!!!!!!!! That's half of Afghanistan! Iran and China build most of their infrastructure and now they are offering helps to others?

Tajikistan's entire GDP is 5 billion. Either this is a joke or Tajikistan's president is crazier than a drunk Ahmadinejad.

This is an Indian trap

1. Tajikistan is facing a Trial in international courts about making Dams for power generation which affect the downstream countries , similar to the Pakistan case of India stopping water in our rivers.

2. Tajiks need to prove that they need those dams to sell electricity to boost their economy.

3. if Pakistan makes an agreement to buy electricity it will lose the case in India vs Pakistan dispute of water.

4. the rational thing to do is to stop India making dams and converting punjab to a desert, before its too late.

electricity is not a problem in Pakistan its just that we cannot pay our electricty bill (cost of fuel to produce electric)

so let us take viable stance and just not sit praying for electric to come.

Constructing this dam will severely affect all the other central asians a lot. That is why i dont like what this government is doing, "if" they ever have any plans to solve the electricity problems in Pakistan they will only think short term and never look at the future. We should be constructing the diamer-bhasha dam to resolve our electricity problem, but we are being lazy and going to our next door neighbor and asking for help............ this government is pathetic:no:

On the issue of funding i think RUSSIA will be able to help fund, because they basically own tajikistan ;)

Sir, we must ask the Tajikistan People as to what their President is "Smoking"?

At the same time the Pakistani Leader(s) seem to be impressed by the President of Tajikistan - speaks highly of these Leaders!
