What's new

Tables turned, 1,800 academics relocated to China in 2020, China beat US and became the world’s most attractive destination for scientists

Why you have to make me explain it again and agian? China is not an immigration country, there's almost no way you can get Chinese citizenship no matter how many years you live in China, unless in US, you can relatively much easier . besides, this thread is about the most attractive destination for scientists , not total population, read again.

You are seriously dodging the question.

Why does the US only have a few thousand people renounce their citizenships every year while 10's of thousands of Chinese citizens do.

US citizens can also emigrate around the world just like the Chinese. Some do. But why are so few throwing away their citizenships as quickly as the Chinese do?

Apparently the answer is US citizens are far more content with their citizenship than the Chinese are with theirs...and that is something you refuse to admit...you keep giving the answer that "China is not an immigration country" and that is not a relevant answer to the question. My answer was it's because China is an emigration country...and the US isn't..and I'm not talking about the net difference of those coming in versus those going out. I'm only talking about those going out.

You have had 100's of thousands of people in just the last 20 years renounce their Chinese citizenship to gain citizenships in other countries of the world.

That is not a positive sign of a successful state. That's not saying you are a failed state but it is not helping you claim you are a successful state.

Refer to the relevant provisions of section 6039G of the US tax law.

Yeah...if you are worth over $2 million or make over like $175,000/yr.
I guess that stops 99% of Americans from emigrating and renouncing their citizenship...not just the 1%.

:rolleyes1:

That means that USA believes that people with an annual income of more than $175000 are likely to leave USA.
Low income people will not leave.

Considering that the Chinese govt usually only approves the nationality application of senior talents, I understand the practice of the US govt.

No, it means that a high percentage of those people who renounce their US citizenship in exchange for one like the Bahamas are doing it simply to dodge taxes.

Stop putting up a smokescreen excuse. This impacts only a small percentage and is not really applicable to the "average" person in the US if they were considering emigration.

Why don't you add the US also prevents people with super security clearance too.

And this is despite China still having the strictest migration policies compared with the loose policies in like usa etc.
western progaganda are designed to fool the gullibles who never travel abroad.
The scientists know where is good for their careers & safety.
That’s not a mass phenomenon. According to latest census about 850,000 foreigners live in China in a country of 1.4 billion, that’s about 0.06 pct. The chance to meet a foreigner in china public is less than meet a new zealand or australia kangaroo.
To put in perspective, Germany wants to allow 500,000 immigrants per year to make up the birth shortfall.

Stop putting up a smokescreen. This impacts very few people.

The US govt has a blacklist of tax havens. USA govt can make laws for the countries on the list, but it does not.
This shows that USA is also preventing elites from going to non tax avoidance countries.

US govt is not confident, it is afraid. Like China, let people leave freely and only accept top talents, that is the way to be confident.

When a country has 10's of thousands renouncing their citizenship every year that is not a positive sign of a successful state.
One obvious reason is that huge % of international migration falls into the skills, investment (ie $$), education categories.
With the low skill level, poor savings & lack of emphasis on education of americans in general compared to Chinese & many other Asians, it's to be expected far fewer americans can qualify to migrate to any countries with any kind of entry criteria at all.

There is a Chinese proverb "橘生淮南则为橘生于淮北则为枳", which means that oranges in southern China are sweet and oranges in northern China are sour.
Chinese living in USA may become racists. Chinese living in China will not become racists. For example, I am not racist.
I think Americans should reflect on why these kind-hearted Chinese are forced to become racists by American society.

Another thing to note is compared to the strict to non-existent immigration policies of China & other Asian countries, western countries are really like giving their citizenship very cheaply. Which policy is good is up for debate.
When you give freebies, people will take it, very simple.

The best part is, until China decides to crackdown on dual citizenship, Chinese can keep their Chinese passport after getting western ones. So many Chinese simply fly back to China after getting western passports.
The less capable ones may stay back in the west & still make a good living due to the general skills deficit in the west.

Zhu Songchun, one of the best scientists in the field of artificial intelligence in the world, chose to leave USA and join Peking University, China.

Dr. Zhu has acquired Chinese nationality.

Dr. Zhu has won the Marr prize, the highest award in the field of artificial intelligence vision for many times.
Most of the top AI scientists are concentrated in China. Dr. Zhu is one of the only high-end scientists in the field of AI in USA.

BTW: Dr. Zhu's daughter will also participate in the figure skating competition of the Winter Olympic Games as a Chinese national.

Thank trump, thank USA for giving two talents to China at a time.

No, not at all. That shows a country like China can not support the skills of their populace.

If people have to move out of their country and renounce their citizenship to gain employment to survive that is a sign of a failed state.

Do you really think if suddenly 10's of thousands of Malaysians moved to Europe every year to work and renounced their Malaysian citizenship this is saying something positive about the state of Malaysia?

If you were offered a job in Brazil if you renounced your Malaysian citizenship and you took it...is that really a positive? Would you renounce it just for money? Are really going to attempt to twist this in such a manner that Malaysia comes out looking better???

To me that sounds like you thought Brazil was a better place to be than Malaysia.

That's why you will see 1000s of American YouTuber uploading videos where as in comparison Chinese going to Moon & beyond in space exploration & other innovative technologies.

China imported football players from South America, hockey from North America, Black basketball athletes or African ... and .....

More importantly, their salaries are higher than the average Chinese people, even very high, they can easily marry Chinese women and have many children. Is that China wants? Self humiliation yourself?

View attachment 812741

Sports players with mixed blood have begun to appear in China. Imagine all the members of the sports team are people who carry mixed blood and immigrants, no traces of Asians. It is a betrayal and humiliation of the nation's culture and history.

Doesnt sportsmen in competitive sports earn more than average citizen in every country?? Why is iy bad when happen in China.
If US imports people and criminals from all over the world, u call it openness and freedom and dreams bla bla but when china does the same, its bad?

The point is usa don't need Chinese, or other foreigners for that matter, to renouce their old citizenship to get usa one. That's how cheaply usa is selling its citizenship. It's crazy to reject such a good deal.
Can't blame usa though as it lacks the skills & knowledge at home.
