Will they be effective against these T55s?RPGs
if Mobile firepower is required in mountains, whats your take on that ? Gunships are not sufficient in numbers.......... that tanks are for FC and they will be posted in mountains?
If it saves lives of FC soldiers, its worth it. Effective and heavy Firepower from Tanks, Gunships, Artillery and Aircrafts is always welcome.Such procurement makes no sense for a country like Pakistan. Operational costs of T55 would be same, if not more than any modern tank...
280 x Tanks can form up an Armored Division. The presence of an "Armored Division" creates a psychological impact of its own on the adversary. FC's very own - Armored Division

VT5 is a Chinese Tank used for mountain warfare.T-55 is around 36+ Tons. HP is a bit low for high speeds. Mountains are not that steep like in Kashmir, no dense vegetation on them too. Other Armored vehicles are lighter in armor (weaponized hilux and M-113) and don't carry heavy caliber weapon for direct fire power. 106mm RR Gun on a 4x4 is possible, yes, but crew is exposed and Tanks create a psychological effect, the whole damn ground shakes and the tunnels/dugouts cave in when tanks roll near them. ATGM are expensive. RPG range is limited, 600-700 meters, where as Rifled Gun like 105mm L-7 on upgraded T-55 can effectively fire 1.5-2 kms with good accuracy to take out enemy from a distance. Static pill-boxed firepower from tank is also not bad in certain conditions.

I just read the posts from previous pages, so i am really not sure.Hi
Where does it states that these yanks are meant for FC?
I means what is the basis of this assumption or it was part of news ?? Identifying FC
last time Fc kpk and Baluchistan got HIt modified t-59/69 from pak army stock I regiment each of 44 tanks per modp report
These were assigned to various units in the form tank troop of anywhere from 4-6 I think
i said scrap... didn't mentioned army or FC. Now go buy some spectacles.
there are certain segment of society who will blame IK even if Qayamat occur today, their 'reason' would be simple "Mian Shaib the tu Qayamat nahi ayei", bring SS he is smart enough to overturn Qayamat as well
For All Other Sensible Members: Rumour of this deal first surface in 2015, links to this news/rumour click here and here, and for non-sensible members I don't need to remind them who was in Government in that year
Chief, all major combat operations at Western Front ended with Rajgal in '17. FC wouldn't be needing more tanks considering the Type 69s already available. This news is baloney, was disproved before too.I just read the posts from previous pages, so i am really not sure.
Assumption can be based on further speculation:
1. T-69 were not upgraded to AZ so handed over to FC.
2. All T-59 to be upgraded to AZ for frontline duty with PA, so no Tanks available for FC
3. If FC needs to be further equipped, then T-55 or further T-59 from China, stand as options.
4. If PA wants more cheap tanks, it can also buy T-59 from China and upgrade to AZ to induct in its regiments, but AK-I are also being inducted side by side, so time frame could be same for new induction of older T-59 ~AZ and AK-I.
It will be interesting to see which engine specs these T-55 will be powered by, if induction occurs.

Afghan Nonexistent ArmyWhats ANA
and screams like a Dehati Aurat due to a vacuum between the ears.Appreciate your post we Pakistanis do like to procure hardware secretly so not to alert our foe who has a deeper pocket.
We dont need to, The party that controls 90% of Afgh are old friendsFC to seize Kandahar and Jalalabad according to some brilliant whistle-blowers on PDF. Cmon
Would 8X8 wheeled light tank be more suitable with a 120mm?where as Rifled Gun like 105mm L-7 on upgraded T-55 can effectively fire 1.5-2 kms with good accuracy to take out enemy from a distance
I doubt it will workWill they be effective against these T55s?

K-2 design, Altay design is what i would have preferred.Chief, all major combat operations at Western Front ended with Rajgal in '17. FC wouldn't be needing more tanks considering the Type 69s already available. This news is baloney, was disproved before too.
XDAfghan Nonexistent Army
sir i think drone in the ajr for surveillance and tanks on the surface would be a good optionFC needs protection and fire power in Balochistan and Iran borders.
It's unfair to send someone's husband , son or brother to die by the hands of better equipped Baloch terrorists , or drunk in supremacy complex Iranian border guards.
F C casualties have been very high.
It will be good news if these tanks are for FC Balochistan.
Yes.I think Pakistan has been using tanks as static firing positions along afghan border for some time now. They were seen during our standoffs with ANA with border fencing. I guess the primary aim of these procurements is to put fear in Afghani soldiers.
VIPER- commonality in most parts. Drivers trained already.Army should look for surplus BMP-2s, the most convenient way for raising a sizable IFV fleet.
