T-129 Atak & Turkish Attack Helicopter Programs

The optical instrument is the main difference between A129 & T129. The engine are another different.

If you want my opinion these two are among the first 9 choppers which will be produced in Italy (T129A). A series could fire hellfire. the other 51 choppers (T129B) will be produced by TAI. The B seri will be compatible with cirit and umtas and a millimeter wave indigenous radar. The first nine will be upgraded then to B standards.

I never have seen pictures of those new 3 super-cobras delivered yesterday, by a US C-5 galaxy.

Those cobras are highly modernized.. Hope to see them soon.

Only thing that is common between T129 and A129 is the body, but even that's slightly different(T129 has a taller body)

Anyway, i don't want to write everything all over again. There are years old posts from Jigs, Cabatli_53 and other Turkish members describing T129 project one just have to search the forum.

I'm just disappointed with TAI's choice of engine for ANKA-A after using kickazz LHTEC CTS800 turboshaft for T129. Just waiting for TEI to make up for it.

As i said, national weapons won't be available for T129 for a while, giving them time to mature. Cirit is a whole new level of weapon for light attack helicopters, just not an emergency for now.

What we need fast is more platforms, US was extremely slow on delivering Cobras as production line was shut.

Actually, The only similarity between A-129 & T-129 is the designs of them. It is because, T-129 is based on proven A-129 fuselage...

-T-129 Fuselage is longer, wider.
-Each Engine has an impressive power and different than A-129...
-New designed fuselage on engine section (wider than A-129 with additional exhausts)
-Longer and Strengthened Wing stations which gives T-129 Atak ability of carrying much more payload than A-129 (300kg for each weapon station).
-Completely new Transmission/gear system manufactured by Turkish industry to transfer the power of high capable engine to rotors effectively.
-New aft tail rudder to give the sharp resonse of longer fuselage with more payload
-Enhanced munition store capacity (500 items 20mm munition)
-New 5 blades main rotor to be manufactured by TAI.
-Reasonable integrated ASelsan/Mikes electronic warfare systems/ EW devices/ EW sensors/ EW munitions (Wing, Aft tail sides, Down-Cockpit...etc)
-No need to mention state of art Aselsan state of art main mission computer, Avionics, Electro-optics, communication devices, helmet mounted display unit and many software system such as Moving map, Obstacle Detection system which is typed by the institutes like Meteksan, SDT.
-Roketsan Missiles designed for ATAK...

Dude to use an aircraft analogy ! Wouldn't that make the T-129 to the A-129 what the F-16 Block 15 would be to an F-16 Block 52 ?

No. F-16 Block15 to 60 aims an upgrading to enhance the capabilities of sensors as a replacement of them with newer technologies but If you pay attention to What I have listed above, You would see that From A-129 to T-129, There are wider and longer fuselage, new design efforts, new transmissions/gears, new tails, rotos... along with upgrading with newer electronic units... Add the production facilities of new copter to be manufactured only in Turkey for domestic and all World countries. Add All intellectual and property right owner state, Turkey: TAI...

Don't you thing turkey is little slow to start the production of this beautiful bird .

If it is almost completely different than the A-129, then what was the point of this cooperation with Italy? I mean how hard can it be to desing a decent fuselage? Is it harder than building its mission computer?

Turkey just requested Italian partner for an fuselage which has a safe aerodynamic and so Italian/Turkish ATAK team (TAI-Agusta-Aselsan) signed partnership agreement for development of this copter called Atak (Establishment of production facilities are also carried out in Turkey by Agusta/TAI). TAI and Agusta engineers are collaborated to desin this safe fuselage based on A-129 Mangusta at Atak offices locating one in Italy and another in Turkey. (TAI engineers worked side by side with Agusta to design T-129 Atak fuselage, will design Turkish utility helicopter at present). After matured design with final modifications applications were accepted, Prototypes were manufactured (p1, p2, p3 in Italy; p4, p5, p6 in Turkey). As far as I know, Italian contribution to T-129 Atak in terms of electronic devices, Only DAFCS (Dgital- Automatic Flight Control System) are manufactured by Agusta, Rest is completely under Turkey's workshare including hydrolic systems, gears and transmissions (with final changes)...

How much of this helicopter will be manufactured in turkey. Will the engine be 100% turkish? Turks are becoming good in avionics though.

Attack helicopters are the arms of TSK to fight against PKK terorists. With a limited number of attack helicopters, Turkish army performs many operations against them. To increase the attack helicopter number in inventory, Turkish officials requested 12 more AH-1W SuperCobra's but USA rejected Turkeys attempt and accepted transfering 3 SuperCobras to Turkey instead of 12.

Current situation !!!

-7+3 AH-1W SuperCobra
-Max. 30 AH-1 Cobra

With Atak Program !!!

-59 T-129A/B + 32 T-129B+

Why did they reject? And why AH-1W not AH-64 Apache?
