BEIRUT -- Two Syrian activist groups say about 5,000 people were killed in Syria in August, making it the deadliest month since the uprising began more than 17 months ago.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Sunday that 5,440 people, including 4,114 civilians were killed.

The Local Coordination Committees, another activist group, said 4,933 civilians were killed in August.

The civil war witnessed a major turning point in August when President Bashar Assad's forces began widely using air power for the first time to crush the revolt.

The fighting also reached Syria's largest city, Aleppo, which had been relatively quiet for most of the revolt.

Firstly, show us EVIDENCE that 5000 have been killed. The opposition claim numerous things but never produce concrete evidence. Also the opposition claim rebels who were not defectors as civilians thus skewing the real picture of Syria.

There are photos, videos and stories all depicting the opposite of what you refuse to accept. Are they all wrong and you are right? What if there really were a total of 5000 human beings killed in Syria last month? What then? Nothing, because no one cares.

Replace Syrians with "Syrians" with "Palestinians" or "Egyptians" and you would be more than eager to accept such articles and numbers.

Heck, replace "Syrians" with "Any European citizens" and WW3 would have erupted. But since these poor people are not diplomatically beneficial, they are butchered.

You can go fly to Syria and count the bodies yourself if you want that kind of evidence. Everything to people like you is a "lie and western media propaganda". It's what the Syrians in Syria are reporting and you hear about hundreds of dead every week, many times hundreds of dead in a day.

It’s wise to read your post before posting it and claiming a morale high ground, if that’s even possible for a Zionist.

Neither of these activists groups is based in Syria

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and The Local Coordination Committees who is aligned with exiled SNC council don’t operate in Syria. They get claims by rebel fighters without confirmation and report it without verify the outlandish death tolls. It’s hard to believe the death tolls of so called activists group who support FSA, since their intentions are bias and will do anything possible to demonize the Syrian government and the Proud Arab Syrian regime
