India's installed capacity of electricity is 203 GW , compared to 19.5 GW of Pakistan

Out of the total 203 GW , some 37 GW is lying unused , compared to some 9 GW lying unused in Pakistan

Normally 8-10% of installed capacity remains vacant due to scheduled Maintenance , So my guess is that some 17 GW is lying vacant due to fuel shortage in India ,
Now considering the fact that we have a demand shortfall of 16 GW , This can easily be taken care of by improving the fuel supply to the Plants .

Also out of the 16000 MW , 8000 MW shorfall is only in 2 States of India ie both Utter Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have 4000 MW shortages each , Rest 8000 MW is spread across some 13 States who are deficient in electricity
Tamil Nadu's woes will be partially offset by induction of 2000 MW Nuclear power plant at Kundankulan in August 2012 , While Haryana and Punjab will get rid of their deficit once the remaining 3 units of 4000 MW Thermal power project gets online in phases by Mid 2013

Now becoz you decided to troll , let me tell you that an average Indian gets 2.35 times the electricity than Pakistan

Last yr the peek summer demand Supply gap was 22000 MW

While this yr , It is estimated to be around 16000 MW , which according to me is actually an improvement

Another funny thing is that Pakistan's installed capacity has hardly increased from 19500 MW in 2007 to 19850 MW in 2011 , While India has increased from 159000 MW to 203000 MW Between 2007-12

Its a shame that so many Indians are getting so defensive - I saw the news and highlighted as an issue in all our regions. It simply will stop the economy developing and not attract new investment or business in.
In return we get posters denying there is a shortage, as if it doesn't exist, complaining at why its put in this section and putting down the writer. I think it would be more constructive to actually discuss what the gentleman has wrote rather than derail the thread.

Yeah but atleast we are utilizing 166 GW out of our 203 GW electricity capacity , While Pakistan is barely producing 10.5 GW of its 19.8 GW capacity

Yes true, but some have discussed on topic, other people including Pakistanis have tried to derail it too.. anyways, the serious ones should at least keep on track, the rest is irrelevant anyways
