Sweden's Public Health Agency said Tuesday it has found thousands of false positive coronavirus test results from Chinese-made tests.

In a statement, the agency said that the PCR kits, which test for coronavirus infection, were made in China by BGI Genomics and that the errors were discovered during routine quality control checks in two laboratories. The tests were unable to distinguish the difference between very low levels of virus infection and a negative result.

According to the agency, the tests were used to conduct at-home tests between March and August. Approximately 3,700 residents received false positive results, the agency said.

"The two laboratories have analyzed samples from a total of ten regions in Sweden, of which nine have received incorrect test results. This applies to Stockholm, Västra Götaland, Gävleborg, Västerbotten, Västmanland, Dalarna, Västernorrland, Sörmland and Blekinge," the agency said in a statement.

The agency also noted that a majority of the people that received the false positive test results "have had mild symptoms or have not felt any symptoms at the time of the test."

"The incorrect test kit has been reported to the Medical Products Agency. It has been exported from China to many countries other than Sweden. The Swedish Public Health Agency has informed the corresponding authorities in Europe and the WHO of what happened," the agency's statement added.

Karin Tegmark Wisell, head of the agency's microbiology department, said that "it is good that the error has been discovered and that the necessary measures have now been taken to ensure the quality of the test results."

BGI Genomics, the company that supplied the tests, received emergency use authorization for its coronavirus testing from U.S. authorities in March and an Emergency Use Listing from the World Health Organization in May.

According to Reuters, two of BGI Genomics subsidiaries were recently placed on a U.S. economic blacklist by the U.S. Commerce Department. They were accused of human rights violations regarding China's treatment of Uighurs in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.

After being placed on the blacklist, the company released a statement denying any allegations of human rights violations.

"BGI Group does not engage in unethical practices and does not provide gene technology for the surveillance of Uighurs. BGI Group does not condone and would never be involved in any human-rights abuses," the statement said, according to Reuters.

Too stupid to know how to use it.

Sweden has only 0.7% of China population.
Same amount of total cases . More death.

This is called no human right/no human left stupidity.

If China government is as stupid as Sweden government, China death toll will be 837,498.

Btw, US/Brazil government is as stupid as Sweden government. Deaths/Million population is exactly the same.

China government is not smarter than Swedish gov, it's just harder and brutal, and that is a useful thing to contain highly contagious virus.

If you choose randomly one hundred Swedish people and one hundred Chinese people, I bet my life the Swedish will be a million times happier than the Chinese.

North-West-Europe is a place with the highest living standards with freedom. You'll never know what is that thing living in China or in USA (at least, if you are not rich).

This shows the BGI test are very SENSITIVE, so much so it can detect very low levels of the virus.
It simply shows the STUPID SWEDES do not know how to read the results or the calibration of virus count considered positive is flawed.

Coronavirus: 3 out of 4 Chinese test kits in Danish study found to have 90 per cent accuracy rate

The three Chinese subjects – an antibody test known as an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and two point-of-care tests – also had a 100 per cent accuracy rate in detecting patients who did not have the Covid-19 virus, the report said.

The fourth Chinese test kit in the study was eliminated from the full test process after performing badly (along with one of the American subjects) in an initial round of testing, it said.

The Swedes should go back to using the "performing badly" Americian test kits.

EDIT: This is the quick test for antibodies and not the more accurate PCR test.

Your comments show your ignorance at least.
Compare a small country of 10 millions population with China of 1.4 billions, what's your standard of comparison?

Control highly contagious virus in very large population country is 10-100 times harder if you have basic common sense in math.

China not only managed to slow down the spreading of virus, but also manged to keep the number to zero. In pass 4 month, almost all infections are actually foreigners/visitors landed in China by air.

Last by not least, China was hit by surprise. No test kit, no knowledge about this novel virus. On the other hand, Sweden has at least 2 month to prepare, test kits can be bought from China.

Your life worth nothing in argument. Only fact does.

You are misinterpreting. India and Pakistan are not a pharma superpower but practitioner superpowers. That means the West discovered the medical science and made inventions in medicines, medical technology and treatment techniques but Indians and Pakistanis excel at using that knowledge because of their workaholism. Did you know that the British, despite making path-breaking / ground-breaking research, mostly make bad doctors? Clinical research and medical practice are different ball games. That's why in UK's NHS, Indian and Pakistani doctors are in great demand.

Some great universities in West often invite Indian and Pakistani doctors for lectures/seminars. What they seek from Indians and Pakistanis is practitioner's experience. Not some high level discovery. But @padamchen and @Indus Pakistan get flattered by these summons and think Indians and Pakistanis are some big-shots.

Welcome back.
Indians do contribute to research.
But mostly as research assistants, the credit will usually go to others.
Indians may not be as good in Enginnering, but they are good at many disciplines including Medicine, Law, Politics and Internet Trolling(haha).
Also not to forget Spelling Bee.

Research requires capital which Asians did not have previously and therefore most new inventions and innovations came from the West who got rich plundering their colonies and working their slaves.

Hopefully Asians don't go to war over a STUPID LINE DRAWN ARBITRARILY over borders by the British Colonizers to keep Asians(and others) perpetually in conflict.
