Not all heroes wear capes. Some definitely wear shalwar kameez as well. Pakistan’s cricket captain Sarfaraz opted for the later and Pakistan loves it.
He met Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, along with other skippers ahead of World Cup 2019 opening party at The Mall, in front of Buckingham Palace in central London yesterday. But rather than opting to wear some other attire, Sarfaraz Ahmed chose to represent Pakistan in our national dress.
In a white shalwar kameez, topped with a green blazer with moon and star on it, Sarfaraz’s gesture has touched Pakistanis. Ahmed can be seen comfortable and confident, with a smile on his face, and that is exactly what we need.
Pakistan needs people who can represent its culture to the world, and send a message that not only are we far more than what the media labels us, we also are proud of our cultural history, tradition, our dressing and every single thing that is affiliated with this beautiful green and white flag.
This came as a fresh breeze for a lot of reasons. Firstly, that it is not an often sight that a national star chooses to flaunt the national dress on international platforms. Secondly, because the whole squad was following the standard dress code, it made Pakistan standout. Thirdly. the way Sarfaraz Ahmed was confident with it, not caring about looking the ‘odd one out’ has definitely won many hearts.
