Support Our Troops

Unfortunately the actions of a few such as Kiyani, Pasha and other high ranking military/government officials have ruined the face of the Army, and it will remain like this for quite a while especially due to current situations and Armys reaction. Undoubtedly a large portion of Pakistanis whether residing in Pakistan or outside are very cautious about Pakistan Army today.

Journalists performing the assignment for Pak Army aiming to display the majority innocent lower ranking/poorer officers (or in this case, a mentally injured officer) to Pakistanis will not fulfill the job. I'm afraid majority of Pakistanis would like Pak Army themselves reveal their purity, and that can only be done when they actually do their duty, which is safeguarding and protecting Pakistani land and civilians from any harm.

It is nothing against the soldier----look at the most critical time in the history of pakistan---these generals kept their mouths shut---if they didnot want to talk then they should have had someone talk for them and come out swining in favour of pakistan when a few days ago Obama ripped pakistan another ar-se hole-----these generals kept their mouths shut and let pakistan take the full bore blast right on the face----.

That is what is treasonous on their part----not having proper security at general HQ in rawalpindi is treasonous----having barely enough security at the main naval base that is treasonous----not understanding the significance of american intrusion is treasonous---other than that they are good play----great warriors who would lay their lives for the nation without asking any questions-----.

We need someone who carries us through hard times with least amount of damage and integrity intact----we got nothing of either----so what do you say.

Even the most ardent critics of the Army have limited their criticism to its leadership (and that too, the top most) that doesn't seem to be warranting the support. They have failed to even try to protect our borders and our soil. When our military chief seems to be in a deal with the Americans and behaves like he can keep on criticizing the Americans publicly and covertly keep helping them, the rest of the nation feels like fools.

They are not beyond redemption. Lekin koi harkat toh karein jispe unko shabashi dein and stop lying. The lies are pissing off the people more than their inept leadership.

I support Pakistan's sons defending this country - shame on those so called "enlightened" Hoodhbhoy followers who take pride in Pakistan army's success and wet their pants in tough times.

Criticism of the performance of armed forces doesn’t mean you don’t love your country. Let us for the sake of argument admit that Pak Armed forces are no match for the high tech and limit less resource US Military; thus US raid in Abbottabad can be explained as due to asymmetric defence capability. But how do you explain attack on the GHQ and now on Mehran base. Weren’t these attacks on the state of Pakistan? The attackers were not from Mars but ostensibly from TTP. The very fact that these succeeded and to add insult to injury, some also escaped; laid bare cavalier attitude of the military when it comes to home grown terrorists.

Pakistani tax payer is making great sacrifices towards maintaining a large defence establishment; least we expect from the services is to guard their own assets. In the next budget direct military expenditure is Rs 495-billion, if you consider funds allocated to associated infra-structure, the total comes to near Rs800-billion. Compare this with the meagre Rs 40-billion each for Education and health. Here we have the Naval Chief who declined to accept that there was any security lapse! Isn’t this an insult to our intelligence? If this wasn't a security lapse, then what was it?

I would say that the under the current environment, where Pakistan state comes a distant second to the supporters of the Takfiris, TTP and other religious lashkars and Jaish; best way to support our troops is by pointing out weaknesses in our defence thinking.

This is the time to be cruel to be kind. Buck stops at the top. It is hoped that open discussion and constructive criticism will shake the Chiefs or the Army, Navy, Air force & the ISI from their slumber and ensure a thorough screening of the recruits in the services. This may not be easy but is a must. History is full of instances where a single Mir Jaffer or Mir Qasim can cause collapse of the entire army

Bottom-line:
1-Let's not keep on generalizing everyone when criticizing a particular cadre.

2-We must keep a constant/neutral/similar yard-stick (to judge efficiency) for every Pakistani when we critique.

Yeah.

But then dont we need a similar clean-up operation in almost every Pakistani institution? Rather we need this clean-up to start from the within. No twisted followers of Islam in the society, none of such beings gets selected to form part of the military.

The military have tried it's best to keep it's men clean from the obvious crap, though a few genuinely get rotten (this no one can help) nd it os these who bring the bad name to the institution.

Unfortunately, the military's track record suggest otherwise. Majors, ex SSG, and other military officers joining jihadi organizations...swearing allegiance to Al Qaeda, conspiring against and attacking military bases and killing their fellow soldiers with gusto - its pretty ugly.

And its not just at the senior level. Saleem Shahzad hinted at a heavy Al Qaeda sympathizer infiltration in the lower ranks as well. I'm afraid the danger posed by these rotten apples in the military is clear and present. The problem is clearly deep-rooted.

The Army glorified salafi-inspired jihadi mercenaries like Laskhar Taiba over the years. And now, not surprisingly a chunk of our soldiers dream about joining their ranks. Its what they want to be when they 'grow up'. Sad but true.

The current bashing being dished out to the military has been earned. Not just for failing to protect the people, but also for deliberately ignoring the well-being of the people by nurturing mercenaries who don't bat an eye while they kill our own civilians and soldiers.

The military is suffering from a chronic disease it inflicted on itself - delusions of glory and power conjured up by the military have taken the country to the brink of disaster.

Xeric, Its no longer enough to say '...well there are rotten apples but most of the soldiers are good'. Clearly these swine are in sufficient numbers and fairly well-connected to do serious damage like the attack on the naval base.

I value the GOOD SOLDIER but I don't want to go out of my way to praise him. Because at the end of the day, it is his job to protect his country and its people.

For the military to regain its credibility, it MUST give up the policy of jihad by proxy, and stomp out all the Al Qaeda loving traitors from within its ranks - junior or senior. Nothing short of that will work.

The patriots in the military need to put their jihadi-loving comrades out of business. Period. If they do that, they will have the support of the whole nation. Time to act.

how can you make this claim??......to make a mehran base attack you just need to get a conversation with a cook or a janitor. every thing is fine if you are a TTP , and janitors adn cooks are not military men or soldiers or commisioned people.

you can even google earth it very easily, that where the orions are!!....PAF masroor is an example which is really badass as far as security is concerned. for aircraft and personnel alike.
