Supersonic Tejas - A Review

Not open for further replies.
Achieving speed of Mach 1.6, equivalent of 1,699 kilometers per hour, light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas is India’s first "indigenous" supersonic light weight fighter aircraft, most likely the last as well.

There has been no looking back ever since the LCA took its maiden test flight on January 4, 2001. Guess what it is still in the process of test flight, a world record on retardation by itself. We're looking forward to its incoming test flight in Feb. 2067 when the supapowa comes into being.

a question to indians. what do you think the seat of LCA is in the top fighter list of the world? or which fighters are better than it?

can some one clear my doubts about the fighting radius cause if the range of tejas is 3000 K how come its fighting radius is just 300 km where as range of JF 17 is 3482 km but its fighting radius is 1352 km ????

Tejas MK1
Maximum speed: Mach 1.6 (1,350 km/h) ; (CAS) at high altitude
Range: 850 km[citation needed] (530 mi) without refuelling
Combat radius: 300 km[citation needed] (186 miles)
Ferry range: 3,000 km (1,840 mi)
Service ceiling: 15,250 m (50,000 ft)
Wing loading: 247 kg/m² (50.7 lb/ft²)
Thrust/weight: 1.07
g-limits: +8/−3.5 g

JF17Maximum speed: Mach 1.6
Combat radius: 1,352 km (840 mi)
Ferry range: 3,482 km (1,880 NM)
Service ceiling: 16,920 m (55,500 ft)
Thrust/weight: 0.95

With relation to LCA, no comments on the JFT.

1. When you say 3,000 that would typically be ferry range. Meaning. Plane has external fuel tanks + aerial refuelling. Its the distance a plane can travel from point A to point B.

2. Combat radius - Takes off from base of ops, completes objective and comes back. This means the plane is carry ordnance (A2A or A2G)

3. Range - Go from point A to Point B with ordnance.

Indians just keep discussing about LCA...that's it. LCA is like a snake without venom...just makes sound to scare you.. Thanks to the extraordinary brains working in HAL, ADA, DRDO...they have been trying and trying to make a flying machine into a fighter....given the amount years and money spent even the Wright brothers would have come up with something far superior to the LCA. After all these years of modifying...the IAF is now concerned about the angle of attack (AoA)...lol what a pity.

DRDO is an organization that can make good prototypes, amazing power point presentations and card board models....they cannot finish their on hand projects and makes the public fool by showing ppts of futuristic projects like Aura, Rustom, AMCA...gadhere pehle LCA to bana le...

I think it will be the second from bottom....the last place being reserved for the Pakistan Air Force JF-17....which even you guys do not use. It is really a smart idea...make others pay for the experiments....give them the thrash product and use the achievements to make better fighters for yourself. Wow...by the way is you country considering TOT of 5th gen fighters to Pakistan....

Some insecure Pakistani's and a troll with false flag is burning their as$es here

Arjun tank was much the same

took 30 YEARS but then it battered T90 in excecises and ovecame some 40 short comings.

NOW Indian arny has 124 mk1 in service and 124 mk1 on order

AND MK2 is being TESTED eventually by 2020 there will be 500+ arjuns tanks

LCA MK1 will take off with ioc by year end and first 40 planes achieving FOC in 2015....

LCA MK2 wil arrive 2018 aby 2024 THERE WILL BE ANOTHER 80 MK2 TEJAS IN SERVICE = 120 fighters in total .

the foundations for INDENGIOUS INDIA FIFTH GEN FIGHTERS & UNMANNED fighters post 2030 have been laid by the LCA TEJAS STORY

Some of our "neighbours" declare "FOC" first time a plane manages to lift off the ground.. and in the end, the plane is due for retirement before it ever got anywhere close to being fit for war.

There is a difference between inducting weapon systems for display in parades .. and weapon systems inducted for actual war operations.

There exist no country which can/will do that and I know of no aircraft that got due for retirement before being fit for war  ... Why ? Because you cant induct an aircraft which hasn't received FOC because it just isn't ready , common sense ! The IOC is merely a certificate to prove that the airframe is airworthy and meets minimal operating capability requirements ... Your Tejas has taken almost 3 decades now , thus by your logic has it passed its time for useful operation ? BTW when are you getting the second certificate IOC-2 ?

Go learn about the blocks/tranches or evolutions of an aircraft before saying that its wrong of other countries to induct military hardware just when they are ready for operation ... The training of pilots and devising of strategies always comes later ... What are you waiting for , changing the requirements of the aircraft again and again ? :azn: ... Upgrades , enhancements and modifications are carried out on a periodic basis on every single aircraft harmonious with its evolution and the requirement , you cant make a weapon which can meet all your requirements in one go ...

Food for thought " EFT still doing that , so is Rafale and so is Griphen and so is the mighty F22 Raptor which is just getting its software and other avionics upgraded " So , according to you they shouldn't have been inducted since they were not in their absolutely final perfect form ?

Nope, the LCA is just a gap filler, a replacement for the Mig 21s and will serve low end needs. Its nowhere near the Rafale, FGFA, Su 30MKI, Mirage 2000 MK5...
