What's new

sukhoi CEO confirms 200 PAK FA for IAF.

When the PAK FA arrives most likely around 2018 even a handful will completely make the IAF VERSIS PAF too lopsided.

A Single PAK FA unseen carrying up to 12 BVR missles KH172 will be taking out F16s/Thunders 10 at a time.

Fifth generation fighters because of their extreme zero or virtually zero visibility is a quantum leap in capability that nobody here can quantify.

PAF won,t even know the PAK FA is there.before ITS TOO LATE YOUR DEAD

su30mki x 230-270 was very heavey odds against PAF but PAK FA will be totally one sided.

END OF STORY.

BY 2025 IAF could have over 500 su30mki/ mig35/typhoon and PAKFA.

That is a FORMIDABLE AIR FORCE.. and very expensive one too

So why is the assumption that only IAF will be flying 5th generation? PAF and IAF have never had generational differences for two long.

If IAF inducts the 5th generation platform, PAF would also be looking to do the same.

As impossible as this sounds, 5 years is a long time in which many different scenarios will pan out. IAF will certainly not be the only ones fielding 5th gen aircraft.

If the past can be used as a precedence then PAF will continue to have a proportional deterrence in place as it always has vis-a-vis IAF.

What are the options for 5th gen fighters for PAF?

Lets talk about J-XXX (even if it supposedly exists) whenever we actually see one. Till then there are only three 5th gen fighters out there. One is already inducted and is NOT for sale to even the closest friends of US, one of them- a paired down version-will be fielded by some countries, while the last and most recent one is still undergoing flight tests.
Developing these aircraft took years and billions of greenbacks. They aint coming cheap or in package deals.

So what exactly are your options?

PAF might get 5. gen fighters too, but not in this decade and that is the difference he might meant. So far only US, or Russian 5. gen fighters are available and although both are on offer for India, it seems Pakistan has to rely completely on China in this field. I also think that China will develop it's 5. gen fighter, but it clearly will take time. They are catching up fast with Russia, or western countries, but still are clearly behind and if US and Russia will only be able to induct F35 and Pak Fa around 2015, inducting a possible JXX before 2020 is simply not realistic.

I do not see in what way PAF will get a 5th gen aircraft?? At this time Russia and USA are the only ones, Russia wouldnt be interested in supplying to You, USA dosent give it to even the closest of allys but has offered India the F-35....

J-xx Is still on papers.... J-XX will take time, Even if it takes time, unless You are a part of that program, Its difficult to get a good package.... So Its hard for PAF to operate a 5th gen aircraft.... :disagree:

To address all three of the above posts, I would say F-35 is as much an option as the J-xx for Pakistan in the medium to long run (5 to 7 years), however unlike the Chinese option, the F-35 with its US strings is more of a political issue than anything else. F-35 has not been offered to anyone aside from the partner nations as of yet. When the LM people have talked to others like India, they have only talked about a distant road map that starts off with the F-16IN. In the long run however, F-35 is essentially the F-16 of future. It has no restrictions on foreign export and the peacexxxx programs will continue selling this very same aircraft to many nations beyond the partner ones. If countries in Middle East can look at it (UAE is already considering F-35 and there is no specific push back from the US side, others like PAF may very well purchase it).

Secondly and I am being conservative here, if China flies a 5th gen aircraft in this decade, so will PAF. This is for certain and another certainty is that China will indeed fly a 5th gen aircraft within this decade and before 2015.

Doubtful for some obvious reasons, because the production for member countries will only start by that time (2015/16) like latest reports says, also given the price tag of $160 million each (confirmed from Australian officials with an possible order of 100 fighters) and the most likely small numbers that PAF could order, the price will even increase. But more over, the US won't provide PAF with stealth techs, while China is still trying to develop their own stealth fighter, because the risk that these techs will end up in Chinese fighters are way too high.
Beyond 2020 as a replacement for the older F16s would be more realistic for PAF and imo for UAE too.

Not correct, because Israel, Japan, Singapore, India and possibly UAE are not members, but has already the chance to evaluate and buy it! Also LM stated that F35 for India is not linked with F16IN anymore and could be possible before the end of the decade (2017/18 for IN).

IF China flys a 5. gen fighter till 2015, it will be the first flight and the induction in squads and active service will only come around 2020, or beyond (J10 first flight as wiki 1998, JF 17 first flight 2003), so even if PAF gets them too, it's doubtful that it will be in this decade.

PAK-FA Stealth Myth Busted

So sad to see those Air-intakes in Zoomed page.Looks like Fan
Just shows, all that we were speculating about S-shaped air ducts is a myth.
Russian's couldnt design S-shape air intakes, all stealth talk is useless , god knows now abt frontal low observable features claimed abt Pak-fa.
We should not invest in this project .

Thats my take - Hope that i am wrong/Picture is fake

The pic is real. The very first day I knew that the fan blades would be visible from front.
But this is a prototype and specially the engines to be used in Pak Fa are not ready. So we don't know what sort of an arrange it would be.

The S curve has to be present. If not S, a little curved intakes but its not gonna be like this for sure. Let the engines get ready and then we can see.

.
If the Pic is not PS job of a Fanboyz effort, then its a real worry.
I think India has been kept in Dark, common -its simple if those are Fans , then it is not a Stealth design.
Thats only thing i can make out, rear was non-stealthy from start, now this frontal aspect wave deflection design , and only god knows abt underneath.
If they havent given air-intake consideration now , when are they gonna do that, personally i dont see many changes design wise in future coming.

just compare engine pic below and whole design above, i am sure its FAN BLADES
Stealth wise its never gonna match RAPTOR- Plain simple fact.

India needs to pick her planes carefully we have more planes down then up in sky why dont we make our own planes then to import from other countries as the chinese are doing .

to keep our trading partners economy running...we are not selfish like others who are sitting on huge trade surplus forcing trading partner countries to close down their industries by all means may its by currency manipulation, stealing intellectual properties of others or reengineering...:azn:

Jokes apart...

Dude we are working on LCA but it will take some time to evolve..to fill the intermediary gap we need to import it from other countries....

And remember future is in joint development and not in reinventing the same stuff just to propagate national pride....thats the reason we have collaboration with Russia/France/Israel and the US to develop futuristic weapons as well as space technology

:agree:but the question is how long?when china can build the plans so fast why cant we?there will be more economic boom if we sell our planes to other countries like china does to pak ,ya i know iam leaving in fantasy but that would be doing much good to india in terms of high economic growth

Building a plane has a few requirements:

1. Technological Know how - we have a little
2. Money - we don't have much
3. Resources - we don't have much
4. Experience - we have nothing
5. Will - this is the only thing we have
6. Time - again we don't have much

Once LCA is done, MCA won't take as long as LCA. Then after MCA we can call ourselves capable enough. It is then we'll be able to establish an industry. That would be somewhere around 2020

yes they seem to be the engine blades only...hope they resolve the problem..

if paf receives f 35 by 2020 then
by 2025 new fifth gen Chinese fighter would have been developed .may be called as j-35 or j-45 something like that:blink:
and they will sell it to Pakistan
and it might look something like this............ :cheesy:
