Suicide attackers, gunmen hit central Kabul

@Fundamentalist

US starting supporting NA only post 9/11. Before that it was mainly the Iranians who supported the NA and the Hazaras. Indians could only provide some army medical teams and the like. The military aid was air-lifted by Iran to Mazar-e-sharif. The Taliban even caught (and killed) seven Iranian diplomats who had been there around that time. Iran even threatened to invade Afghanistan on this for the Taliban to losing all sense of Islamic and International stnadards by killing diplomats.

So you see it was CARs like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Iranians and only at a secondary level Russia and India that didn't want a Taliban style Afghanistan on their doorstep. By the way it was India that gave asylum to Najibullah's family, the last president of Afghanistan before it fell to complete anarchy.

And what can a few 100 Indians really do? GoI has repeatedly denied any military involvement till now. Most of the Indians (and oh yeh there are Indian muslims there as well) are working in NGOs or involved in reconstruction efforts. So Indians have the right to visit Afghanistan as long as GoA allows them to do so.

I can understand if you oppose India using Afghan soil to launch non-state actors against Pakistan but to put a blanket ban is wrong morally and even from an Islamic pov as they are helping out Afghans who need help and by this act GoP is denying an important helping hand to them.

Non sense

Why we dont want peace in Afghanistan ? :hitwall:

Many Afghan Rafugees involved in terrorism in Pakistan also norcotices and kalashankov culture is resultant of Afghan Rafugees .

Non sense or a bitter truth. You surely want peace in Afghanistan only if your puppet gov such as the Taliban is in place. Afghanistan having a democratic gov and an elected parliament will be Pakistan's nightmare, because you know how much Afghanistan's people dislike and distrust Pakistan. Here you go, now you accuse the refugees of terrorism, if they were terrorists it is because you guys taught them to be the terrorists, remember the Taliban? And the culture of Klashinkove have always been part of NWFP people's culture which some of the people proudly mention it.

How many times leader of puppet gov (Mullah Omar) visited Pakistan???? or you have any proof how many million dollars he got from Pakistan ??????

We trained them for Jehad in Afghanistan during Russian occupation, can you tell us fighting against invaders is jehad or terrorism? You need to learn little about the condition when Jihad is valid? and What is difference between Jihad and Terrorism.

How could you blame that Kalashinkove was part of Pashton culture ,first time Kalashakov came in Pakistan after start of Afghan Rusian Jehad during early 80's?????

No one change your thinking because you opened your eyes under US occupation , during Russian occupation lot of Afghans and Pushtoons from NWFP studied in Russian Universities have same ideas what you have now in favour of US occupation and their puppet government..

Kabul attack
Dawn Editorial

The audacious suicide-cum-fidayeen attack on the doorstep of the Afghan presidential palace is an ominous development. There was, of course, death and destruction but the real impact of Monday’s attack in Kabul was symbolic: the militants are sending notice that they can strike at will anywhere in Afghanistan, even yards from where President Karzai is swearing in ministers in his new cabinet.

Suspicion has quickly fallen on the Haqqani network, and it seems likely the group is behind the latest attack. That the Haqqani network appears to be growing in strength does not surprise seasoned observers. Three advantages combine to make the Haqqani network uniquely powerful in Afghanistan.

First, the Haqqani brand isn’t built simply on legendary exploits on the battlefield — the Haqqanis are also considered spiritual leaders because of the chain of madressahs they have built over the decades, especially in the Waziristan agencies. Second, Al Qaeda has concentrated its activities in the east of Afghanistan, which is where the Haqqani strongholds are located. The resulting Al Qaeda-Haqqani nexus has given the Haqqani network a big boost. Third, the Haqqani network’s linkages with the Pakistani Taliban have given it a rear base in Pakistan’s tribal areas and added to its strength. To those advantages add the fact that the torch has largely been passed from father, the old and infirm Jalaluddin, to son, Sirajuddin, considered to be more aggressive, more lethal and more ideological than his father.

With the American troop surge in Afghanistan expected to begin in March, the goal of the Haqqani network appears to be to push the Americans even further on the back foot.
In response, the Americans have lately been talking about reconciliation with “moderate” Taliban in the hope of whittling down the insurgency before taking it on and preparing to exit the country. But, as we have written before, the “moderate” Taliban appear to be more a figment of desperate imaginations than a reality.

There are loosely three groups that comprise the Afghan Taliban: the group led by Mullah Omar, the Haqqani network and the Hekmatyar group. If there are going to be any talks in Afghanistan, they are going to be with those three groups, none of which could be described as “moderate”.

Further complicating the picture is the fact that there is no clear pecking order: while all militants pay obeisance to Mullah Omar as the “supreme leader”, talks with him alone cannot guarantee the Haqqani and Hekmatyar networks will toe the line of any agreement. The new year has clearly failed to bring good tidings for the Afghan government or the Americans.

"... then why 30 million [afghans] are living in Pakistan??????"

Can this be proved or is it more hyperbole to build a case of fraternal Pak-Afghan friendship in the writer's fantasies?

That number is greater than the present afghan population in AFGHANISTAN.

BTW, how long does an afghan remain an afghan if they and their descendants have lived in Pakistan since, oh, 1980-81? Forever? Seems odd since many have no memory whatsoever of Afghanistan as a home other than tales about the ol' campfire.

That is accurate but only a part of the picture. What DAWN has ignored here is that there's a large number of fighters within these factions that don't necessarily hold the same ideological commitment as their leadership and MAY be susceptible to being peeled away.

There's no reconciliation based upon negotiations on the horizon with any of the leadership save, possibly, the always malleable Hekmatyar. Haqqani is firmly in A.Q.'s nexus and remains a "strategic asset" of the P.A. as Kiyani put it. Mullah Omar has made clear he'll not negotiate until western forces leave Afghanistan and he can have a free hand negotiation by the barrel of a gun.

Fighters, though? Different question as to how deeply allegiances run. Personally, I hold little faith in any case. Without question, men can be swayed to disarm and swear allegiance to the Afghan constitution. By itself, that's a good thing. However, unless sanctuary is removed and, with it, the ready source of recruits of both Pakistani and Afghan lineage living in FATA and Balochistan, there'll always be plenty of willing dupes.

So long as Haqqani has his rear bases and headquarters in Miram Shah and Omar the same in Quetta, this war shall continue unabated.

How many times leader of puppet gov (Mullah Omar) visited Pakistan???? or you have any proof how many million dollars he got from Pakistan ??????

You must be joking!! he doesnt have to be visiting pakistan to be pupet, by the way before coming to Afghanistan he was living in pakistan. I dont know how much dollors pakistan paid them and how much arms/amunitions given him, but he was surely receiving all sort of help from pakistan.

If Afghan people dislike Pakistan then why 30 million are living in Pakistan??????

LOOOOOL, all population of Afghanistan is not 30 millioins. They are living there because they are desparate, otherwise they will go back to their country, they will live in their own country and their own house rather than paying huge amount of rent to Pakistnai landlords and harrasment of police on the other hand.

We trained them for Jehad in Afghanistan during Russian occupation, can you tell us fighting against invaders is jehad or terrorism? You need to learn little about the condition when Jihad is valid? and What is difference between Jihad and Terrorism.

Ghuzawai Uhud was Jihad but what Omarak is doing is terrorism and killing innocnet people. and do rreally wish we never trusted pakistan, turn the clock back and every single afghan would never trust you guys again.

How could you blame that Kalashinkove was part of Pashton culture ,first time Kalashakov came in Pakistan after start of Afghan Rusian Jehad during early 80's?????

Not necessarily klashinkove, but there were other types of small arms.

No one change your thinking because you opened your eyes under US occupation , during Russian occupation lot of Afghans and Pushtoons from NWFP studied in Russian Universities have same ideas what you have now in favour of US occupation and their puppet government..

come out of your fantasies and stop accusations, i lost my family members in the fight against the russians and here you put accusation.

If you dont have proof the what is reason of false blame?????

Your are right , 28 Million is total population but still 3 million living in Pakistan and 1 Million in Iran?????? It means ISAF failed to restore peace in eight years.

Ghuzawai Uhud was Jihad but what Omarak is doing is terrorism and killing innocnet people. and do rreally wish we never trusted pakistan, turn the clock back and every single afghan would never trust you guys again.

We helped Mujahdeen to liberate Afghanistan from Russia that is reason you dont want to trust us??????

MO wanted to liberate his country from US occupation , what is wrong with it??????

Not necessarily klashinkove, but there were other types of small arms.

Khashinkove culture term introduced during Afghan Jehad not before????

come out of your fantasies and stop accusations, i lost my family members in the fight against the russians and here you put accusation.

Karzai also claim that he fought against Russians but why dont want to fight against American occupation ??????

During Russian occupation it means you dont get chance to be part of their Dr Najeebullah Regime?????

I accepted my mistake in above post , but why you jumped in the discussion by forget your principles of ignore list just wanted to score on loose ball ??????

.

If you dont have proof the what is reason of false blame?????

It is not a blame, Musharaf in his interview admited it. everybody knows it and it is not a secret. there were huge numbers of Paksitani fighters openly fighting in Afghanistan alongside the Taliban, they were there all the time in broad day light.

Your are right , 28 Million is total population but still 3 million living in Pakistan and 1 Million in Iran?????? It means ISAF failed to restore peace in eight years.

the refugees have been refugees for the last 3 decades and not eight years. they were refugees during your taliban as well. There wont be any peace in Afghanistan until there is mollah omarak type people and targeting afghans.

We helped Mujahdeen to liberate Afghanistan from Russia that is reason you dont want to trust us??????

You helped the Mujahideen to defeat the russians not because you were brother to afghans, but because you wanted to save your own skin from the russians. if you care about muslims that much go and fight the chineese your best friend because they are killing muslims in that country and denying their every rights. You also divided the mujahideen into 7 groups to have control over afghanistan.

MO wanted to liberate his country from US occupation , what is wrong with it??????

this actions of Omarak only had reliability if he wasnt serving another country to the cost of afghanistan.

Khashinkove culture term introduced during Afghan Jehad not before????

Maybe not klashindove culture, but gun culture was always there.

Karzai also claim that he fought against Russians but why dont want to fight against American occupation ??????

Because it is the right thing to do. we made a mistake once dont want to do it the second time. what is the point of fighting the americans and fall into slavery of pakistan?

During Russian occupation it means you dont get chance to be part of their Dr Najeebullah Regime?????

I/we werent part of Najib gov, and for the last time stop baseless acuusations and personal attacks.

Mullah Omar dont need any fighters , he had enough resources to tackle 40+ countries forces alone , ISAF could not break their network and now they can target enemy when and where they wanted.

the refugees have been refugees for the last 3 decades and not eight years. they were refugees during your taliban as well. There wont be any peace in Afghanistan until there is mollah omarak type people and targeting afghans.

MO has full suport of local people otherwise , he could be defeated as TTP was defeated by PA.

It was common intrest , our ISI planned well and their stretegy was successfull , but now Mujahdeen are well trained no more need our support , the day the got stinger from any source ISAF will have no choice to leave Afghanistan.

China is playing their card safely , they also dont want US presence in Afghanistan , our firndship with China is much stronger then any other country in the world , they supported us in 65 and 71 wars.

Muslim in China have equal rights .

this actions of Omarak only had reliability if he wasnt serving another country to the cost of afghanistan.

Mullah Omer is fighting for defence of Islamic values not for the intrest of any country , concept of muslim ummah is much broader then your imagination.

Maybe not klashindove culture, but gun culture was always there.

Pushtoon and other Pakistanis could keep small arms but Kalshankov is prohibited arm.Try to think with logic and facts.

Because it is the right thing to do. we made a mistake once dont want to do it the second time. what is the point of fighting the americans and fall into slavery of pakistan?

Its means Afghan Jehad against Russia was mistake and claim that your relative sacrified for that , it means that sacrifice was wastage,

You need refesher course about fundamentals of islam.

I/we werent part of Najib gov, and for the last time stop baseless acuusations and personal attacks.

That is great that that you was not part of Dr Najeeb ullah regime but why your proud of ISAF and Karzai regime , history is repeating itself , there is no dofference between ISAF /Karzai and Russia/Dr Najeebullah both are invaders and paid agents, better dont support them and support forces who wanted free and independent Afghanistan.
