Inertia, eh!

It's not inertia. Strictly speaking it's Newton's first law:If there is no net force on an object, then its velocity is constant. The object is either at rest (if its velocity is equal to zero), or it moves with constant speed in a single direction unless there is any external force acting on it.

In simple an object with velocity x will continue moving with speed x unless there is any external force acting on it. And that's what's happening here. He is reversing so fast so the strips on the lorry are moving with it but when he suddenly stops, the strips still have the velocity so it stops later.

By general definition of 'inertia = amount of resistance to change in velocity' you are right but inertia is attributed to First law of Newton
