Lets have a logical (and troll free) discussion -
Benefits of Strategic Bomber for IAF -
1. Strategic Bombers will help in carpet, terror, anti-civilian Conventional bombing type of missions, where BMs are not optimal, too costly and otherwise risky (a BM launch with conventional warhead can easily be mistaken for a nuclear attack)
2. While the fleet of IAF multi-role + ground attack fighters can handle conventional bombing og Pak targets, they do not have the range/endurance for similar missions against the chinese cities. Aerial refuelling will need complete air superiority - which will take time, if it is even possible.
3. Bombers provide mission flexibility which missiles don't have.
Problems of Strategic Bomber -
1. Bombers are very costly to maintain and train crew for.
2. Bombers are also extremely susceptible to SAMs. Chinese SAM cover makes this a virtually unsurmountable problem. We will need complete air superiority which will be hard to achieve against China.
Possible alternatives -
1. Carrier based bombers - provides long range, and can be used to bypass at least part of the target's SAM cover. But few manned bombers can fly long range missions out of carriers w/o extensive modifications (again, if at all) - google for "Dolittle Raid". So the option is Long Range, Carrier-based Unmanned Bombers. Our AURA is a (baby) step in that direction.
2. Ultra high altitude / space based bombers - similar to American Aurora, Blackstar, X-37(?). Your mileage may vary on how long DRDO will take to develop this. But we can potentially convert our AVATAR RLV for this profile.
