France surrendered Japan, and Japan kept France around as lap dogs to manage Indochina for them. Also VN was the one who took the opportunity when Japan got defeated and France was out of the game to declare independence. Go study some history, dude. VN liberated itself, with little help from outside (in 1945, that is).

I once made the same point as @BoQ77 to another Viet mem (@gambit). VN needs to change, now. But that change cannot be too sudden, cannot be something like a coup to throw down VCP. Democracy, communism, socialism, those are just pretty words invented by some people to let them control the rest. My teacher, who used to study in the US, once said: "There are 2 type of people in this world, the opperessors and the opperessed. The opperessed try their best to rise up and become the opperessors, while the opperessors want to stay in power and eliminate any threats to their positions."
Interesting point, but i guess once VN turns itself into a democracy, freedom place, it will be more like Taiwan area today.
But how? Those in charge will not roll over too easy. There will be violent but better now than another fifty years

I say with the external threat (i.e China) already hanging above our head, we should focus more on how to deal with it first, rather than focusing on internal issues. More than ever we should unite, rather than get seperated by our belief, our ideology. If things get chaostic, hostile nations can take the chance to bully the newly born govt, and we cannot count on others to support us then.
Have some confidence , Communism is not that bad , Democracy is not that good .
I could care less about commies or capitalies. I share the same opinion as my teacher (though at first I found it unacceptable). If the opperessors can treat the opperessed well, I am fine being an opperessed. Ideology, teaching, theory are all tools of opperessors to maintain their power.
