@ Deaert Fox....how many damned times do you people have to be reminded that the Mujahdin and Taliban aren't the same thing? The Taliban didn't come about til mid 90's...Reagan was already dead. Ask Ahmad Shah Massoud if the Taliban are the same as those who fought the Soviets...oh...that's right...they killed him. The Taliban FOUGHT those who beat the Soviets (by this time...fighting amongst themselves). I'll tell you what...you pretend that the Taliban are the same as those who fought the Soviets...I'll pretend the Pakistani army is the British army (they're both armies...both in the same place...the same and only arguement that the Talibs are the same as those who fought the Soviets...oh...and the American army is an Apache warband...)
you will be best served to double, triple, quadruple check your facts before posting......
you are factually incorrect. You have SEVERAL factions of a conglomerataion of militant outfits united under the umbrella of the Afghan anti-NATO resistance (not necessarily taleban) (e.g. Hekmatyar faction). A good number of the top brass of the taleban led by Mullah Omar are veterans of the mujahideen. If you are talking about some of the regular foot soldiers who are fighting your soldiers in guerilla warfare, obviously not all of them will have been veterans. Some are hardly in their late 20s or 30s. Their parents, uncles etc. were a part of the resistance decades ago. Fighting [invaders] is in their blood, it's all they know how to do.
as for taleban fighting those who fought the soviets --- well perhaps you're best served reading the history of the country.....after the soviets withdrew --- so did America and the West. Rather than "thank" these people for winning you some lost pride from Viet Nam -- you abandoned them.
nameless, faceless, addressless people just left to rot -- in a war tattered country.
Naturally there would be a power vacuum? Same happened and is still happening in Libya today, post Gaddafi.
