Sri Lanka's Killing Fields-atrocities by SL army against Tamil civilians

I am very curious to know who paid for that documentary.
The world would have to take an Indian version with a bucket of salt. An Indian funded LTTE terrorism wrecked havoc, because the old witch thought she could use LTTE to terrorize the SL. Now how hard is that to comprehend ? Even an Indian like you should get that.

Tamils in SL were demanding 50% quota for the minorities, even your incredible India is not going to put up with sh*t like that. No one does. How would you think if the Muslim complain about discrimination ( heck they got slaughtered by the tens of thousands with no justice) and demand 50% of everything ? Comparing to Tamils in SL, Muslim in India has a far better case using your twisted reasoning.

Your ignorance knows no bounds!!

here read this:
Initially, LTTE operated in cooperation with other Tamil militant groups which shared their objectives, and in April 1984, the LTTE formally joined a common militant front, the Eelam National Liberation Front (ENLF), a union between LTTE, the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), the Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS), the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF).[19]
TELO usually held the Indian view of problems and pushed for India's view during peace talks with Sri Lanka and other groups. LTTE denounced the TELO view and claimed that India was only acting on its own interest. As a result, the LTTE broke from the ENLF in 1986. Soon fighting broke out between the TELO and the LTTE and clashes occurred over the next few months.[20][21] As a result almost the entire TELO leadership and many of the TELO militants were killed by the LTTE.[22][23][24] The LTTE attacked training camps of the EPRLF a few months later, forcing it to withdraw entirely from the Jaffna peninsula

Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984. She had nothing to do with LTTE.

Another interesting snippet:
Although the accord was signed between the governments of Sri Lanka and India and the Tamil militant groups did not have a role in the agreement,[20] most Tamil militant groups accepted it.[30] The LTTE rejected the accord because they opposed the candidate for chief administrative officer of the merged Northern and Eastern provinces because he was a member of the EPRLF.[29] The LTTE named three alternate candidates for the position, which India rejected.[30] The LTTE subsequently refused to hand over their weapons to the IPKF

Seriously, before commenting and showing the world your ignorance and folly, try to read a little.

Why is historical perspective and hindsight the only way we notice when horrific crimes occur on this earth. Every decade there are a couple of genocides and we shove them under the rug or live in denial...only acknowledging them when someone puts together a sad little montage of what happened. Humans are to ego centric and too worried about their own lives and their own national interests to notice the horrible things happening around this planet...it is trully sad.
This genocide, like each and every other one, could have been stopped, but what was in it for anyone? Saving innocent lives are not the sort of political goals leaderships ever find worthy enough.
Such acts will continue to happen and most people will continue to look the other way, it is the terrible truth of the world we live in...I feel terrible about what happened to the Tamils...if its any consolation, they can now join a long and illustrious list of peoples that were killed senselessly while the world stood back and watched.

...If we start supporting moist (which we should) then imagine what they will do to your security forces./QUOTE]

YOU NEITHER YOUR GOVERNMENT are in any place or capable of supporting moist....

a country in the mist of terror ...

i think you just forgot that that you are talking about a country which does not have enough to eat and pay ...which is running on mere AID money .......

The hypocrisy of Indians is unprecedented - I have never seen such huge hypocrites ever - Indians try to act all evlish and devlish but in reality they are just a bunch of hypocrites - I mean look at Israelis - I admire them because they're very clear about their stance not hypocrites like Indians.
Idiot. Generalizations can be easily applied to any other group of people for the deeds of a few. Wanna play the 'blame' game?
Well i say you sow LITE/Mukhthi Bahini and you reap Kashmir Insurgency, Khalistan Insurgency, Moist Insurgency...If we start supporting moist (which we should) then imagine what they will do to your security forces.

That should take the stupidity cake!!

LTTE - paid the price and now its a defunct, toothless, barely existing terrorist organization.
Mukti Bahini: Ask the Bangladeshi's who started it. India did what it had to do and the rest is glorious history.

Khalistan insurgency: eradicated. Pakistan's moral support failed.
Kashmir militancy: almost eradicated (rare news of violence in the valley). Once again Pakistani 'moral support' failed, miserably.
Maoists: movement on the wane, losing ground support for their reckless senseless violence. Anyhow, can Pakistan afford to support a movement which demands equal rights for the downtrodden and the minorities? Seriously? Wouldnt that constitute a fine example of Hypocrisy considering the fact that Pakistan's constitution discriminates what it believes are non-believers?

Had a relative of mine who recently finished some projects in SL.
As far as he mentioned, it needs quite a bit of IDs and docs
for Indians to roam freely. Armies checks specifically the Indians in
particular, whereas other nationalities don't go through those embarrassments.

Seems the Sinhalese has some serious issues with India, not to mention
they are quite pissed off at Indian interference. Well ofcourse deaths could
have been avoided, but a country with such prosperous potential could not
just keep silent about terrorists destroying their country years after years.

There should be a peaceful resolution regarding the demographic shift.
Tamils need to rectify their attitude regarding the support of LTTEs . Maybe
thats how things will become a bit more stabilized.

Even my 10 yr old nephew knows he needs to cite when he quotes.

Only a deranged mind is capable of making a post like that. LTTE was a pet snake of Indira. Rajiv did withdraw support for LTTE, but by then it turned into Hydra and eventually caused Rajiv's untimely demise.

Indira was killed in 1984, perhaps you should also learn that she gave birth to this pet snake before she was shot dead by the freedom fighters of Khalistan avenging the genocide at the Golden Temple and in Punjab.

Maybe we can talk about the slaughter of 20,000 Sikhs in 1984 by the Hindus.

If India didn't eff up Sri Lanka, it would have a nominal per capita between $6000-$10000 today. The jealous old witch could not stand that I am sure. The economy the Indians tout about is due to IMF and not because of brilliant Indian work. IMF literally shoved down the idea of opening the Indian economy, they accepted kicking and screaming because they were bankrupt.

Yup, just two decades ago these geniuses bankrupted themselves with no clue about wt* to do about it.

This thread is about SL army's killing of Tamils. Not about skih genocide or Bengali genocie.

LTTE was formed because of the genocide of Tamils by groups like JVP. Indra Gandhi exploited it, just like she exploited Mukthi Bahini to create your country.

LTTE is a terrorist organization. The world treats them as such. It is the SL army which should be answerable for its actions.

1) perspective
LTTE were supported and funded by the Indians. They were responsible for massacres as well as the Sri Lankans.

LTTE's Kattankudi Muslim Muslim Mosque Massacre by LTTE

The Sri Lankan governments killing of civilians was alsojust as bad (some will argue that's warfare)

However LTTE did start it.

2) as in nagasaki and hiroshima, some will argue that sri lanka's ruthless campaign saved lives in the long run.

Meanwhile the UK has demanded action from Sri Lanka and set a year end deadline. Although its not an international heavyweight anymore, the UK retains some nuisance value as a permanent member of the UNSC and could make life difficult for the Sri Lankans..

Fresh call for Sri Lanka war crimes probe

By Mary Watkins in Mumbai

The UK has renewed calls for the Sri Lankan government to investigate allegations that war crimes were committed at the end of the country’s 25-year civil war after a television documentary appeared to show fresh evidence of human rights abuses.

Channel 4’s “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” documentary, which aired in the UK on Tuesday night, revealed disturbing images apparently filmed on mobile phones and small cameras of civilian casualties, executions and evidence of sexual abuse carried out in the final months of the civil war.

The footage showed hospitals being repeatedly targeted by air strikes and in one scene bound and blindfolded prisoners being executed. The documentary claimed that both the Sri Lankan army as well as the opposition Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were guilty of serious war crimes.

Alistair Burt, British foreign office minister, described the footage as shocking and called on Sri Lanka to give the international community “a serious and full response” to the evidence.

“The recent UN Panel of Experts Report, this documentary and previously authenticated Channel 4 footage, constitutes convincing evidence of violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws,” Mr Burt said.

In April the Sri Lankan government warned of sweeping protests after a report by the United Nations outlined suspected war crimes – including the shelling of civilians in no-fire zones and the bombing of hospitals.

Mr Burt said that the UK had been calling for “an independent, thorough and credible investigation” into the war crimes allegations since the Sri Lankan civil war ended in May 2009.

The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday categorically denied the allegations made in the documentary that it had deliberately targeted its own civilians, and called in to question the authenticity of the material aired. It said that the TV footage could damage the reconciliation process.

“This is an exercise which is carried out by a small section of the international media at the behest of certain parties with vested interests and it caters only to the interests of separatist forces living outside Sri Lanka, the final objective of which is to push Sri Lanka back to war by way of lacerating the wounds that the country is attempting to heal,” it said in a statement.

Mr Burt said that the UK government expected to see progress on the matter by the end of the year, adding that if the Sri Lankan government did not respond the UK would support the international community in revisiting the options available to press the Sri Lankan government to meet its obligations.
