Sri Lankan prime minister hails cooperation with China

.
I am requesting you to act as a spokesperson for all the voiceless Lankans who want to get rid of evil Indians from their land. As a Srilankan patriot you should give it a shot.

Why should I? I mentioned not to read for that Indian member and now you've jumped to that and shouting at here. It is better if you can find some other forum to talk about it. There are 1,820,000 results for toilet nadu in google, deal with people who post it there not me!

. .
Anyway, SL has almost become enemy of India so she can do anything she wants. None of our business.

Finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel .

. . .
How much of SL economic activity is dependent on India? India should gradually fold it's relationship with Sri Lanka (like Pakistan) and concentrate on Africa/South America. They provide bigger market and higher growth. Just get away from South Asia.

I am sure Chinese will fill the void left by India.

If you say so :)

I would say that Sri Lanka is surviving in spite of India:

Well said. High time India/ Indian companies moved away from Sri Lanka. Just do it like Pakistan. Play cricket. No investment, no trade, no travel.

I can only wish dreams of SL nationalist on this forum come true and India pulls a Turkey and shuts down all kind of "relationship" with SL. That should placate those loud Tamils;)

I would tend to agree. India's influence in South Asia has been more negative than positive. Despite being neighbours SL's biggest export markets are the US and Europe - which is strange. Can't speak for others but Chinese investment would be most welcome (at least for me). I think less Indian investment in Sri Lanka would mean less reasons for India to meddle in Sri Lankan affairs.

Also, this is another thing getting in the way of Indo-Lankan relations. India has Tamil pressure groups while China does not. Although the current Indian government hasn't bent to Indian Tamil demands for "sanctions" and "breaking ties" with Sri Lanka...

First tamils have no say whatsoever on india's foreign policy.....congress party in tamil nadu is pretty much DEAD they have no future here and they know it .....we are on our own.....india does not care about the tamils be it indians or sri lankans....period.Heck how many indian tamils have the SL navy killed? what the **** did that big *** blue water navy did to you guys for that ?....india cant even stop its own fishermen killed by SL navy even with a super duper world class navy ...why do you think its like that huh?

If pak navy kills a few indians like the tamils what you think will happen? i am pretty sure all hell will break loose

Indian political influence in Sri Lanka has been largely negative. I think that's fair to say.

Given there are random bomb blasts in India and random acts of terror I'm sure many Indians realise than it ain't that great when neighbouring countries sponsor terror groups.

But India did exactly that in Sri Lanka.

That's not terrorism ,freedom fighting .

Yeah, like the Kashmiris, Assamese, Dalits, Maoists etc.

You missed my point. I want India to not deal with Sri Lanka at all. Zero trade, investment, travel...That would do wonders for India-SL relationship as India will have lost any say in SL politics. India should act bold.

You sound quite emotional. I don't know the reasons for that.

However, India does have Tamil pressure groups and India being a democracy those pressure groups do have a say. It would be silly to assume that they have no influence on Indian foreign policy. Previous Indian governments have bent to these pressure groups, with disastrous consequences (death of Rajiv Gandhi, 1000s IPKF soldiers killed, bomb blasts in Tamil Nadu). The current Indian government has not, which is fair enough, because I think the demands emanating from Tamil Nadu are a bit excessive. China, on the other hand, does not have Tamil pressure groups and there is no historical baggage it has with many South Asian countries. The Vietnamese/Koreans/Japanese may have issues with China (historically and politically) though.

I don't see that happening - ever. But you are welcome to engage in hypotheticals if you wish.

Agreed! But I doubt Congress would do that.
