Featured Sri Lankan minister criticizes India for power-sharing call

Then why was the 13th amendment enacted? By not giving provincial status to Tamil region, Rajapaksa's don't want to dilute their power and because they would have no hope at coming to power in Tamil provinces.

The 13th Amendment, which led to the creation of Provincial Councils, assured a power-sharing arrangement to enable all nine provinces in the country, including Sinhala majority areas, to self-govern.

Subjects such as education, health, agriculture, housing, land and police are devolved to the provincial administrations.

The real reason is this.

"What Prime Minister Mahinda did not spell out is the well-acknowledged fact that main sections of the Tamil and Muslim polity and major segments of their respective communities went overboard to vote against the Rajapaksas in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. Better or worse still, made celebratory statements on the consistency of their community stand since the post-war presidential polls of 2009.

So much so that, present-day incumbent Gotabaya Rajapaksa skipped campaigning in the Tamil areas in the presidential polls last year, and also declared that he was doing so as he did not expect the Tamils to vote for him."

My point is Rajapaksa's keep courting China at the expense of India. They are trying to kick out India from Colombo on one hand and expect India to benevolent by extending $1.5 billion currency swap.

This is what your new foreign secretary has said.

"Though the two Rajapaksas then said that they were against handing over ‘national assets’, new Foreign Secretary, retired Navy chief, Adm Jayanth Colombage, clarified that New Delhi had ‘legitimate stakes’ as 70 percent of the Colombo Port’s business was India-centric."

They are yet to assure India about that port.

And your point about China being better than India. I wish you good luck.

"Credit ratings agency Moody's downgraded Lanka's sovereign credit rating by two notches, saying the South Asian nation would be hard-pressed to secure funding to service its huge foreign debt.

Sri Lanka was pushed down from "B2" (high credit risk) to "Caa1" (very high credit risk), as the coronavirus pandemic compounded the economic woes of the country."

You are debt trapped, with such credit ratings you have no where to go but to China. Lets see which part of the country you would loose sovereignty next.

And regarding Pakistan and China's interference in India, firstly, it is unsolicited and secondly, they have no competence.

As Pakistan or China's interference is not sought by any section of our country. They do so even after Indian muslims abuse Pakistan day in and day out. Tamils of Sri lanka do seek India's help.

"In this background, PM Modi’s announcement of a $ 15-m grant for the ‘promotion of Buddhist ties between the two countries’ has not gone down well with a section of the Tamil polity and society in Sri Lanka."

Pakistan or China has no influence on India but India does have a influence in Sri lanka being its larger benevolent neighbor.

Sri Lanka unhappy with share in India's budget, keen for review

India didn't keep its end of the bargain with regards to the Indo-Lanka Accord. So why should Sri Lanka?

India had failed to ensure disarmament, an end to hostilities and the resettlement of displaced people.

In addition the Indian Peace Keeping Force slaughtered and raped Sri Lankan Tamils, including the infamous Jaffna Hospital massacre.

India is kicking itself out of Sri lanka through its self-centred politics and harping on the Tamil issue.

Colombo port has nothing to do with the content of this thread:

A Sri Lankan minister said Thursday that India has no moral right to interfere in the country’s internal affairs by insisting on power sharing with minority Tamils because New Delhi failed to fulfil its obligations under a 1987 agreement to disarm separatist rebels and ensure an end to Sri Lanka's civil war.

China didn't arm, train and fund a terrorist organisation in Sri Lanka like India did.

Three cheers for China!
F**k Indian interference in Sri Lanka's internal affairs!

Meanwhile Tamils of India:

India loves Sri Lankan Tamils so much it has kept them locked up in camps for more than 2 decades.

How does it matter what few people in Tamil nadu think of Modi. India is going to push for 13th amendment as a reciprocation for our assistance. Otherwise you can go loose sovereignity to China.

Tamils in India have their own issues with the Indian central government. So do Kashmiris and a whole lot of others. Sort them out before trying to preach to Sri Lanka.

Let me put this straight. India is not dependent on Sri lanka for anything. Your entire value for us is that we didn't China in our region, competing with us. Sri lanka tried to play both sides at the beginning. When India ignored, it fell into the debt trap of China. Now it is digging deeper hoping to come out. Lets see when you realise your fallacy.

Sri lanka if it wants assistance, then it comes with conditions. If it is not acceptable, you can go find a land/strategic asset to mortgage to China for 100 years. If you want no one to interfere, become strong yourself. You owe half your GDP to the outside world. At some point you have to realise you just cannot survive on debt.

India voted against Sri Lanka at the United Nations. China did not.

China has been and is a far better partner for Sri Lanka than India.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The call, the minister was referring to was related to when Sri lankan PM recently made a request to Modi for additional currency swap of $1.1 billion and for deferment of nearly $1 billion, you owe us. Modi during the call made the hint towards what it takes.

Rajapaksa's got the hint and secured a new loan from China this week. This emboldened the minister to talk about the call today. I don't think you know the circumstance to the interference. Now you know it.

But Moody this week downgraded your credit rating to 'very high credit risk' country. This means that you won't able to raise money (dollars) on your own. You are completely dependent on China now. China and Rajapaksa's have successfully pushed you in a debt trap. Yet you keep harping about India's interference. So listen up, India and Modi is quite happy to leave you to your fate.

When you want to come out of debt trap, you know what to do. Maldives came out of such debt trap recently after India helped it.

It's laughable that India abrogates Article 370 and terrorises Kashmir while claiming to care for Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Please f**k off Bharat Mata.

.
Thank you Mr. Weerasekara for speaking out aloud what many Sri Lankans think. India really should concentrate on its own affairs instead of trying to dictate what Sri Lanka should and shouldn't do when it comes to the island's own internal affairs.

actually there need not be any ambiguity in this. The minister asking India not to interfere in SL's affairs is a very fair one. Similarly, respecting the Tamil sentiment and asking for fair treatment for Tamils is also a fair request. If SL treated Tamils equally, we will just keep quiet and mind our business.

If India treated Muslims equally, Pakistan would keep quiet and mind their business. So why don't you do that?

Do muslims come from pakistan? I know for sure that ALL TAMILS have their roots in Tamil Nadu. We don't tell you how to treat Budhists or Christians. That's not our business.
