Can anyone explain how Tamils are doing in Sri Lanka economically? Because compared to Sri Lanka, India is shit hole and poor. Only 2-3 states are worth anything in India, Maharashtra, Karela and all these states are way behind Sri Lanka economically.

dude, you are commenting without knowing the whole story. Tamils who are demanding separate state are the people who live in the north of Sri Lanka. They are 5% of the whole Sri Lankan population. But majority of Tamils live around the country with peacefully. Everyone has same rights in Sri Lankan constitution today coz they have become part of Sri Lankan society but above group of Tamils who live in the north demanding for special rights than the rest of population. This is the conflict we have in here.

Tamil pop in NE , pre war was 12 % , now its 5 % , half a million migrated - war refugees, rest massacred by the neo Nazis (200,00) , even if they were 5 %, they form majority in the NE, while Sinhala were concentrated in the Central and South.

But you failed to address the core issue - why Tamils demand Tamil Elam ?

Eastern province is now major tourism hot spot where the all Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims share similar percentage. Northern province showed highest development percentage in the previous years coz of major projects. Jaffna is fairly clean and relax city than dirty Tamilnadu cities.

You know its funny u state this now, especially how the Sinhalese right after independence made sure they had edge on tamils in Sri Lanka by refusing them government jobs and giving special privileges to Sinhalese. As for settlements both tamils and Sinhalese are migrants to Sri lanka.

My dear friend are you aware about 'Sinhala only act of 1956' ? Which made sinhala the official language from english ?
Well that meant all govt jobs would required Sinhala language as official writing and tamils had to resign as they weren't fluent with Sinhala.
Majority of top posts in civil service were held by Tamils and this was seen as a ploy to kick em out. The divide was created in the early 1950's when reservation is school and colleges were given to Sinhalese and Tamils were ignored.

Yes there are, it is a tribe in odisa and bengal though few in number. Sinhalese like the Tamils are migrants from india, both migrated long time ago. Sinhalese migrated during the era of Ashoka charge to southern India. Following are some links, where even the Sri Lankan diplomat says they are of Indian origin. Not blotting about this fact, it is just that they are two tribes who need to grow up now and learn to co-exist.
