Sri Lanka Rejects Indian proposals to allow fishermen

Time to launch few Brahmos block-III. :sniper:

Than wasting some money, isn't it good to provide some GPS devices with some knowledge to those fishermen? Or arrange some fish farming technologies/developments etc.

The proposal of the Indian government is that a common area where the two countries waters meet should be a free zone for fishing for both sides. Can you please tell me why this is unacceptable? Even if the the common waters is a few KMs wide, it helps both countries.

Why is Sri Lanka taking such a stand. Any rational human will see that this move will build confidence on both sides.

This issue is inside Sri Lankan borders, SL can't go for any proposal which directly effect to its fishermen, Indian fishermen should respect another country's border line. I think Indian Navy can play a better role to prevent such issues in these areas.

You have written nothing logical at all. No one is interested in changing borders. Read again and reply.

You haven't got what I have mentioned. why should we share our waters with someone else if that effect to our fishermen?

Some Indians here think that they were the people who got rid of LTTE for Sri Lankans :hitwall: ... Let me get this straight , Sri Lankan army fought a war on its own for decades without any help !!! ... India aided those Tamil insurgents by every means possible ... Tamil separatist were trained by RAW under the pretext of Tamil nationalism ... Weapons and critical intelligence were provided to them ...

Beginning in August 1983, till May 1987, India, through its intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), provided arms, training and monetary support to 6 Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups, namely Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS) Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) and Tamil Eelam Liberation Army (TELA). It was a Top Secret operation. Even the state governments or Sri Lankan oppoition leader Appapillai Amirthalingam were not aware of such a mission until April 1984. The LTTE's rise is widely attributed to the initial backing it received from RAW. It is believed that by supporting different militant groups, the Indian government hoped to keep the Tamil independence movement divided and be able to exert overt control over it.[4]During that period, 32 camps were set up all over India to train these militants.[1] However Prime Minister Indira Gandhi maintained the position that "We have never interfered with the internal developments of any country in the past and we will not do so now." Contrary to her statement, 3363 Tamil insurgents, including 10 batches of LTTE (405 men and 90 women) were given military training to fight against Sri Lankan armed forces during the succeeding years.[5] Initially 350 TELO cardres were trained at Dehradun, in the hills of Uttar Pradesh. It was followed with training for 200 cadres from EROS, 100 from EPRLF, and 70 from PLOTE.[3] LTTE was the last insurgent group to enter the training. First batch of Tigers were trained in Establishment 22 based in Chakrata, Uttarakhand. Second batch was trained in Himachal Pradesh. 8 other batches of LTTE were trained in Tamil Nadu. Ironically, Thenmozhi Rajaratnam alias Dhanu, who carried out the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and Sivarasan - the key conspirator were among the militants trained by RAW, in Nainital, South India.[6]

India even illegally airlifted aid for insurgents ... Did everything to destabilize the country ... Deployed army in Sri Lanka ( fearing that Indian Tamils would demand freedom afterwards ) lost 1200 soldiers and the operation led to assassination of Rajiv Gandhi ... What are they bragging about now ? India once again failed to achieve its strategic objectives ( the plan actually backfired :P ) and now you guys think you are some sort of saviors ? On the other hand , Pakistan provided military assistance and weapons to Sri Lankan army to help defeat those terrorist ... The last weapon shipment ordered in April 2009 was crucial to defeating those separatist !

Sri Lanka started buying arms and ammunition from Pakistan in a big way from 1999. The total purchases until December 2007 were worth $50 million while there has been a sudden jump in the quantity of merchandise ordered in 2009 and the amount has been tripled.[7] With India reluctant to sign a Defense Cooperation Agreement with Sri Lanka and unwilling to supply it with the kind of weapons it is looking for, Colombo has turned increasingly to Pakistan. There are segments of opinion in Sri Lanka that are in fact in favor of the government finalizing a defense cooperation agreement with Islamabad.[8]
Pakistan has sent military advisers, ammunition and other equipment to Sri Lanka during previous offensives against the LTTE. Many Sri Lankan officers are trained in Pakistan. Pakistan, by supplying high-tech military equipment such as 22 Al-Khalid main battle tanks, 250,000 rounds of 60 mm, 81 mm, 120 mm and 130 mm mortar ammunition worth and 150,000 hand grenades and along with positioning of some of its highly trained army officers in Sri Lanka, played a key role in the ultimate defeat of Tamil Tigers in May 2009.[68] Back in 2000, when a LTTE offensive code-named Operation Ceaseless Waves overran Sri Lankan military positions in the north and captured the Elephant Pass Base and entered Jaffna, and it was being feared that the LTTE would run down thousands of Sri Lankan troops stationed in Jaffna, Pakistan supplied Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System and other high tech weaponry which halted the offensive.[68]In April 2009, Sri Lanka requested $25 million worth of 81 mm, 120 mm and 130 mm mortar ammunition to be delivered within a month

Shortly after the defeat of the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka, Islamabad congratulated Sri Lanka and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hussein A. Bhaila of Sri Lanka called Pakistan a true friend saying:
"The government and the people of Sri Lanka have considered Pakistan as a true friend of Sri Lanka, which has always stood by it in times of need..."

Who's a better friend here ? One which supports the insurgents or the one which provides assistance to cripple them ? Are you guys under some delusion ? :undecided:

^^ Just providing information to some ignorant chaps who think they are some sort of saviors ! ... Now dont tell me even you didn't know all that :P

LTTE was an arm for which Rajiv suffered. He was blown to bits. But then again, you should be the last one to tell us about terrorism. Lanka wasn't too friendly either. Why do you think that was started? Because they assisted your warships and allowed US to dock for you on their side. What do you expect us to do? Sit and wait them join our enemy camp?

The agreement is for even your fishermen to fish in our regions. It is a mutually inclusive pact. I don't see where you tend to lose extra from us.

Because the waters around katchaatheevu were given to you on the CONDITION that tamil fishermen will be allowed to fish there...

Still in denial about it ? You ungrateful people.

Wait till the court case gets over...then we will see what your fishing boats which pretend to be navy vessels will do against Indian navy.

If we had not done that , you and your master would have nothing to change the lankans from getting their rear spanked by the tigers.

This is hilarious! If there isn't much catch in the Indian area so what's the deal with it? SL doesn't asking to share Indian waters, it trying to protect SL waters.

Have you read that agreement properly? There isn't fishing rights to Indian fishermen! Give me a min, I'll show it.

All these done by SL Navy, we are able to destroy 11 ships with weapons.

and who was training them at first ? who supplied arms and intelligence initially ? They weren't defeated because they ran out of supplies ... They were defeated because Pakistan provided high tech weapons to Sri Lankans to which guerilla fighters were no match ... Start educating yourself
