What's new

Sri Lanka playing double games with India again

there were more games then one could possibly imagine. india armed and trained the LTTE so that the tamils would get their separate state and the tamils in india would be happy as many were pro LTTE the blunder came when india sent it forces against the very tamils it had trained. rather then picking side it. it picked one then the other. the tamils were apparently too well trained and supplied and over 1000 soldiers lost their lives before the srilankan govt asked india to leave with its forces and thus india still gave srilanka weapons and now when the LTTE are defeated and the srilankan govt has complete control o dont think they will be doing any amendments when they didn t do at the height of LTTE power....

you know the one thing that surprises me the LTTE had their country they had their conquered land why were they so hard on the local people that the people started fighting against them. it wasnt only well training and well supplied that kept the LTTE in power it was local support of the tamils that allowed them to beat the forces of india and srilanka the very moment the support shifts boom they r finished

People inside LTTE controlled land never revolted against them...
They had strict military routines though like compulsory consciption(which is present in israel, singapore etc)....
Am not saying LTTE didnt do mistakes, am saying that SL sinhalese chauvnism is responsible for them taking arms...
And sinhalese have done, even now have done mistakes, while i see none of them condemn them, just cos u are anti india..
Try to be broad minded

Are you kidding?

Read up on Sri Lankan Civil War.

Pakistan sold Sri Lankan Army machine guns and especially rocket launchers which devastated LTTE positions before Sri Lankan Army moved in.

Pakistani Arms were a game changer in Sri Lankan civil war.

Without India's help it was close to impossible to finish off LTTE.

. .
And what help did India provide?

India's forces were defeated by LTTE in 1987 and your PM assassinated.

IN effectively blocked off Palk Straits during the 2008-2009 SL civil war putting a stop to LTTE logistics from TN to SL. Remember SL is just 80 miles from India at its narrowest part. Also security agencies clamped down on the smuggling activities in TN. IN gave accurate information of LTTE floating wharehouses to SLN for them to destroy, provided SLA with radars, SLN with patrol boats etc etc.

IPKF was never defeated . We were forced to withdraw by President Premadasa who also backstabbed us by providing weapons to LTTE. When IPKF was there LTTE was on the run and only returned to power after we left. If IPKF was allowed to do their job, we would have handed over the northern areas to SL on a silver platter by early 90s itself.

So I am confused.

When IPKF went to Sri Lanka, why didn't IN block the Palk Straits? And why were they only blocked during the last years of the war? And why the hell would Sri Lanka's president provide arms to LTTE?

Your logic makes no sense. The IPKF were indeed defeated, they lost thousands of men killed/wounded and withdrew. It was basically India's Vietnam.

And the straits of Palk did not dent LTTE Arms Smuggling. The majority of their arms came from Thailand.

It was the Pakistani Ammunition and training received in Pakistani academies that turned the tide of the war.

As a indirect support to GoSL in its war efforts.

Bcs for Premadasa Indian presence in SL was unbearable. Read up about him.

Yes we lost men, but its the same as in Kashmir. Militants just hit and ran and never controlled territory which LTTE did upto 2008 after we left

I said 'logistics'..never said arms. LTTE had many bases in TN that provided them with materials needed for war effort. I remember reading a news report during the 2008/2009 period when TN police confiscated a large consignment of cycleballs meant for LTTE for making their bombs.

As for arms 95% of the LTTE arms came from North Korea. LTTE owned big ships by which they transferred it to the equator. From there merchant tankers transfered it to SL EEZ and from there sea tigers transfered it to land. The merchant tankers also acted as floating wharehouses, always on call to deliver the required weapons to land.

It was the Pakistani Ammunition and training received in Pakistani academies that turned the tide of the war.

Yeah whatever floats your boat. If one says that LTTE was destroyed without India's help, it just as saying that Taliban can be defeated without Pakistan's cooperation.

.
^^ So was it India's government official policy to support LTTE or was it just a state initiative by Tamil Nadu to help out their fellow Tamils in Sri Lanka by sending them arms and the Federal Indian Government couldn't do anything about it?

Its just as the situation in your tribal regions. Pak Govt is officially with US on WOT but the Tribals with blood relations on both sides of the border do not toe the Govt line and help out Taliban to the extent of giving them safe sanctuaries in Pakistan.

In this case India was pro-LTTE till 1987. Then we (Both Central & TN Govt) cut off any support to them. But there are enough people in TN who sympathize with SL Tamils and they do their part to help them out. When I said 'LTTE had bases in TN' in the last post, I didn't meant large conventional bases, but small workshops like setups that supplied LTTE with materials like uniforms, cycleballs, medicine, gasoline etc.

That bolded part is not sure news..
They had sympathisers all over the world..
In the 1990's They had obtained Shoulder to air missiles from LET and Al Queda , with whhich they destroyed many helicopters...

Indian govt didnt support LTTE, and as for TN onlyy nationalistic parties were involved in agitation..
Dont count on karunanidhi's fake fast, it doesnt matter...
In TN the tamil nadu's Q branch police were actively involved in capturing LTTE suspects and smugglers...
TN govt hadnt supported materialistic to LTTE, only fake words..
