Sri Lanka Exports 4,000 Computers Monthly to Pakistan

Sri Lankan Ezy Infotech, has made public its intent to export 4,000 computers a month to Pakistan.

This came on the heels of the company's announcement , some weeks back, that its first consignment of 600 units had left for Pakistan on September 9. Further, this goal would be aided by recent appointments of distributors - Decent Computers in Lahore, recipient of the initial order, and Optimum Technologies in Karachi, currently awaiting delivery of an order for 500 units - who have already "expressed an interest in marketing the entire range" of the company.

This according to the company's Chief Executive for Sri Lankan operations, Shafraz Hamzadeen, who also signalled the company's desire to export locally made computers throughout Asia, 'barring India where they already have a manufacturing plant and a very strong presence'. While indicating that the company had "a very aggressive marketing strategy", he also suggested that future exports would target the Maldives, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia, further hinting that the company had set its sight on Bangladesh next where it was "currently in the process of appointing a distributor".

Meanwhile, as Mr. Hamzadeen sees it, the company's 'biggest competition' would be from China because "they too manufactured low cost computers". He added: "However China has one great drawback with respect to their internal transportation, where sometimes it takes as much as three weeks for goods to reach the nearest port from the manufacturing plant while an EZY computer exported from Sri Lanka, could be sold within that particular country even before a Chinese computer leaves the Chinese port”; additionally claiming that his products 'could be sent to the country of export within 10 days of manufacture'.

Very nice post. BTW you guys should know that Sri Lankan Muslims make up a large chunk of the entrepreneurial class in Sri Lanka. Only about 8% of the population is Muslim but they have a 20% share of the national income because of their business acumen and good relations with other communities :)

Sorry, dont take this in wrong spirit, but I've to point out that there is a huge difference between "Sri Lanka Exports 4,000 computers" as mentioned in title and "intent to export 4,000 computers" as the article mentions.

Good luck to SL to reach 4K target and beyond.

I got that point. Obsevation valid.

But, as usual, I think there is nothing wrong in Exports because now a days simple present tense is also used for describing future. Strange!

But look, For Example, The Prime Minister Visits Germany or The President Addresses the National Assembly next month. Nothing strange, Use of simple Present Tense for Future is valid.

Action in future but use of Simple Present Tense, Headlines of newspapers usually comprise of such examples.

In continuation of my previous post.

For further detail.

The simple present tense is used to indicate a future event that has been agreed on. We attack at dawn. I go to the seaside next week. It sounds rather formal.

The continuous present, used to indicate future events that are scheduled, is used in formal and informal contexts. We are attacking at dawn. I am going to the seaside next week.

Present tense modal verbs are of course used to point to the future in all kinds of contexts: I may / must / will / shall / ought to / should go.

Hope, Xebex, the doubt is out.

Good news for Pakistan and SriLanka. Pakistan-SriLanka should form joint company so they can assemble in Pakistan. One other options is to have China directly invest in Computer manufacturing sector in Pakistan.
Pakistan will need at least million computers in next 5 years for personal use, for IT companies, for Schools and Universities, for Net Cafes, etc.

Could someone please list of companies who are currently manufacturing PC component, assembling computer and selling locally build computers in Pakistan?

100% ? u mean the processors ? memory ? HDD ? no country can do that except CHINA there r cost considerations...The sub continent can afford only Chineese /Taiwan components and most of the US companies source from China.
