Sri Lanka does a Maldives, raises excise on Indian vehicles by 73%

We do manufature motorcycles U know (except the engine). Our Walton industries plans to manufacture cars by 2015. I am not celebrating yet though , but we do make motor cycles and there is a plan to make cars as well.

Well come back and talk to us when first car from your country hits the road.. Till then

Cannot compete with us in a fair fight so beating us by increasing the excise duty.. seems like a good way to take on India!!
So what will indian do more of soft-power display in form of bollywood type soft mujras.of course bolloywood supposed to be one of your soft-power tool pdf indians always claim that on every bollywood/indian soft-power related threads. I wonder if indian diplomat get trained in doing bollywood item nos....................

Phew this may result in a 0,00000001% decrease in India's phenomenal 34,5% year to year increase of automobile sales since 2010. Considering that Japan's Nissan plans on making India it's centrifugal assembly and export zone from Asia to Asia and Africa and certain other parts of the world, Sri Lanka's decision may just have a lower percentage impact on our vehicle sales exports. Just that I can't type a lower percentage decimal at this late hour :D

I have corrected that but its around $800 million for 2012 which means it has doubled since 2008 n SL imports more than 22% of its total imports from India...:D

yep, that's what I have said India share bigger share than SL, so it doesn't bring luck to India at all. ;) Even India stopped all SL export it around 5-6%.
mostly we import food such as Onions, potatoes, we do import from same items India's other neighbours. so it just matter of increasing those items from other countries.

@Skyline
India is the largest trade partner and one of the top two investors in Sri Lanka.

The total bilateral trade for 2012 was $5.1 billion, although it was heavily dominated by India accounting for $4.3 billion accounting for 22% of SL total imports n not 5-6% dear...:D

U should do some research. We don't buy Indian cars. U use your own people as guinea pigs.

P.S : But I do respect the patriotism Indians have towards buying their own products.

Actually Indians buy Indian products only because they are good and reliable. Indian are very status conscious, so they will also own imported ones along with Indian ones. I have a Ford and a Maruti myself. I have owned Honda and Toyota before. I have decided to go for small and compact cars because of parking problems and am very happy with my decision.

don't get mixed up, I have mentioned only export share of SL.
Export share of India is bigger as you have mentioned, that's why I have said any act will boomerang to India back ;)

Can you in your expert opinion explain this increase in duties on specifically Indian "automobile"? How will it serve the lankan consumers? How will it keep the competitiveness of lankan auto sector?

The Indians seem to be such whiny bitches these days. Quite unfortunate.

There is a bogeyman around every corner it seems.

Either its the Pakistanis. Or the Bangladeshis. Or the Maldivians. Or the Nepalis. Or the Chinese. Or the Muslims. Or the USA. Or the Sri Lankans.

And for Pakistanis, Banglas, Nepalis and the Maldivians there seems to be only one ogre - India. Easiest way to no govern effectively and pull wool over the the eyes of their simpleton citizens - blame india
