Sri Lanka cricketers to be paid after Pakistan series
Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee chairman Upali Dharmadasa has informed that his country’s national cricketers will be paid their due when they return home after their tour of Middle East.
SLC is expecting to receive around USD 4.3 million from the International Cricket Council (ICC), for hosting the ICC 2011 World Cup.
A few days ago, it was reported that about 100 Sri Lankan cricketers have not been paid since the end of the World Cup, which the island nation co-hosted with India and Bangladesh.
"We are awaiting the money from the ICC soon after they have finalized their audit of the World Cup which we believe have been completed," Dharmadasa was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The interim committee chairman added that SLC requires around USD 290,540 a month to pay the salaries to its 230 employees and 100 contracted cricketers.
Dharmadasa also criticised the previous interim committee, which was headed by former Sri Lanka leg-spinner DS de Silva, for spending large sum of money to build a new stadium at Hambantota, renovating the Pallakele Stadium in Kandy and the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for hosting the World Cup.
"We are struggling financially today because of such unnecessary expenditure," Dharmadasa said.
