Has Sri lanka banned a few particular pharma companies or has it banned imports from Pakistan completely ?

Piece of glass, fly found in vaccine vials

Colombo (Srilankamirror) - A piece of glass has been found inside a vial of fluconazole vaccine at Colombo National Hospital’s intensive observation unit.

A doctor at the unit has detected the piece of glass as he was preparing to treat a patient.

He has complained to the accident ward’s director Dr. Prasad Ariyawansa, who has confirmed the incident to the media.

The use of the vaccine vials, bought from a drug manufacturer at Ahmadabad in India, has been stopped.

Yesterday, a fly was found from a Cloxacillin vaccine vial at Colombo South General Hospital.

According to the Health Ministry, both vaccine vials have been referred to the Medical Research Institute for tests.

Indian company has put bonus items inside those. :D

Just by looking at the name fluconazole tell me it's not a vaccine .
It must be an AntiFungal Antibiotic from Azole families something like
Itraconazole and Ketoconazole and clotrimasole .

The health ministry of Sri Lanka has taken this decision after over 100 people died due to alleged spurious medicines in Lahore, Pakistan.
It's a serious concerns why your health ministry allowed over 100 death
and then banned the drug ?

From now on buy only Chinese.
well Iran also produce world class Vaccines and very good drugs
they can also buy the drugs from us if they have problem with Chinese
drugs. by the way producing this sort of drugs is not that hard they can
produce it themselves if they are willing to do some small investments .

Happy are you all now?

Great.

As a matter of fact, all the exported medicines are ISO certified and the Ministries of health of both stakeholders take notice of it.
Inside Pakistan, such things could be falsified, with other company making medicine using the trademark and replica of original. As for exports, the company is in direct contact with both ministries and governmental departments.

I don't knw where you people getting such vaccines/drugs?? have u ever seen hw vaccines and drugs manufactured?? have u heard abt GMP?. I think you people getting all those things frm local or road side vendors otherwise there is no such possibilities. If you found glass pieces just give it back to stockist/pharmacist for replacement why u people went to media?. The most impt thing is u should have money to get gud medicine.

well to be honest only ISO is not enough . for that every several
month they will send some batches to be tested you must have
a national standard that test the drugs in random, or a health
system to react to the first incident of such cases .

another problem is that as you said in Pakistan the marks can
be falsified . in Iran you can falsify the mark until the owner complain
to the court but when it come to the drugs we have another protection
layer that stop these sort of falsification and that's no drug company
Is allowed to sell the drug to the market directly this must be done
via drug distribution companies they work as middleman between
drugstores and factories and their numbers are limited so they check
the authenticity of the drugs and also drugstores are also not allowed
to buy drugs from anyplace but these distribution companies .also if
you import drugs you only can distribute them via this companies.

.
This may be a blessing in disguise, now the drug manufacturers and govt. will have to make ever more stringent quality controls and develop testing facilities. Pakistan has all the expertise and equipment, they only need to be brought at a single place.

no if you see any sort of impurity in the drugs you must report
it to the health ministry so they can act swiftly and stop disasters
like 100 death from bad drugs .
when there is any sort of impurity in a drug it means the process
of making the drug is flawed and using the drug specially it's a
drug that must be injected can be lethal and it's not limited just
to that special vial . all the product line must be stopped and all
the drugs that are shipped must be called back .

Alert warning issued to doctors, hospitals not to administer isosorbide-5-monoritrate 20 mg imported from Pakistan.

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan Director General Health Services Dr UA Mendis clarified on Thursday that “so far, there is no ban on import of medicines from Pakistan.”

“An alert warning, however, has been issued to doctors and hospitals not to administer or prescribe isosorbide-5-monoritrate 20 mg imported from Pakistan,” he added.

“Presently we are carrying out a through investigation and checking the supply and stock position from the importers and stockists,” he said, adding that according to his information “no such stock is available in hospitals or drug stores.”

Earlier, head of the country’s drug regulatory authority Hemantha Beneragama had said that the isosorbide-5-mononitrate 20 mg drug manufactured in Pakistan cannot be used in Sri Lanka.

Beneragama had added that the same drug manufactured elsewhere was safe to use.
