Sri Lanka Army Chief Meets Bangladesh Army Chief

Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, now in Bangladesh on a formal six-day visit, promoting bilateral understanding and reciprocal commitments, called at the Bangladesh Armed Forces Headquarters at Senakunja in the Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (11) and met his hosting counterpart, General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen ndc psc, Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff (CAS).

At the entrance to the Bangladesh Armed Forces Headquarters, he was warmly received by senior officers and ushered to the Army auditorium. In accordance with military traditions, the visiting Sri Lankan Army Chief was greeted with a Guard of Honour, the highest gesture of respect that could be accorded to an overseas military chief.

Afterwards, the Army Chief from Sri Lanka was invited to symbolize his visit with an unforgettable gesture after planting a sapling at the Dhaka Cantonment premises where the Bangladesh Army Headquarters is situated.

Next stop for the Commander was the Bangladesh Army Chief’s office at Army Headquarters at Senakunja. His host as well as the longtime friend, General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen Chief of Army Staff cordially welcomed him and his delegation. High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Bangladesh Mr W.A. Sarath K Waragoda and Commodore M. Naseer, Defence Attache at Colombo High Commission for Bangladesh were in attendance during the courtesy call at the office of Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff.

Cordial discussions that ensued afterwards between both Army Chiefs centered largely on military matters of mutual and regional interest and possibilities of sharing experience and strategies in the successful Sri Lankan experience against terrorism. The meeting also explored avenues of exchanging more officers for various training modules in both organizations. The Sri Lankan Army Chief during discussions focused on reviving the old practice of exchanging sport programmes between the two Armies.

Towards the end of the cordial interaction, General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen presented a special memento to the visiting Sri Lankan counterpart before he left his signature symbolically in the VIP book at the host’s office. The visiting Army Chief reciprocated with a similar symbolic souvenir.

Visiting Sri Lankan Army Commander Calls at DSCSC & MIST in Bangladesh

The remainder of Wednesday’s evening itinerary of the commenced afterwards as Bangladesh Army’s all Principal Staff Officers and the Military Secretary lined up at the Army Headquarters conference hall to extend their greetings to the visiting military dignitary from Sri Lanka. After the visiting Commander was introduced to the senior officers, a brief documentary, screened at the venue enlightened the visitors on the roles and tasks of the Bangladesh Army. Later on, the visiting delegation met senior officers at the Armed Forces Division and saw for themselves how their battle preparedness strategies work in the event of emergencies. Lieutenant General Abdul Wadud received the visiting Commander.

One of the significant phases of the Commander’s itinerary took place then as he paid a visit to the education village of Bangladesh Armed Forces, the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur where he was received by the DSCSC Commandant Major General Mohammad Shamim Chowdhury. The DSCSC as a well-acclaimed centre of excellence for study on subjects of military interest is affiliated to the Bangladesh University of Professionals.

The next segment of the day’s agenda was a trip down to the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), a hub of knowledge that provides technical training to both military and civil professionals in Bangladesh and foreign lands. Major General Hameed - Al - Hasan at the MIST welcome the visiting Sri Lanka's Army Chief. The day’s detailed programme ended with a banquet hosted by the Chief of Army Staff in honour of his visiting counterpart from Sri Lanka. A variety show, depicting cultural diversity added entertainment to the occasion.

lol why is our army in camouflage? i thought camouflage was to be only used in battle scenerios.

They always wear camouflage while on duty. Office job falls into that category.

Nice. Lets have some jungle warfare exercise with them...with our infantry and may be also SWADS!
