Spectacular Architecture and Art

I want show you one of the greatest archievements of our Empire. The Aqueduct. There were countless of them build in the Roman Empire and eache one was an absolute marvel.

They brought water over thousands of miles to the great cities. Their construction and maintanance was one of the geratest tasks the Empire performed.

The roman scientists knew about the bad effect standing water has so they constructed a low gradient which allowed the water to be in constant flow by gravity. They did also know from the lead mines that lead has very negative effects on health. Because of that ceramic tubes were used.

The imperial main city Rome itself had many of those Aquaeducts. This allowed a city development as never seen before. Best hygienic standards and fountains evrywhere.

By the late 3rd century AD, the city was supplied with water by 11 state-funded aqueducts. Their combined conduit length is estimated between 780 and a little over 800 kilometres, of which approximately 47 km (29 mi) were carried above ground level, on masonry supports. They supplied around 1 million cubic metres (300 million gallons) a day: a capacity 126% of the current water supply of the city of Bangalore , which has a population of 6 million.

Many are still standing after 2000 years

It's amazing how the ancient people used to have aqueducts, public baths, restrooms, paved streets and roads linking the cities, libraries and theathres in a lot of cities... things that some people around the world lack even today.

I agree. If you imagine that the Aqueducts of the city of Rome alone could provide 126% of the water capacity needed by a million city like Bangalore you can only wonder.
