South Korea: Bollywood’s Future Market?

if you want to survive in foreign countries you need to adapt. people might watch a bollywood movie once to get a taste but they won't continue to watch if all of it is the same.

Would you watch Korean movies over and over again if they were all the same?
Of course not, you would watch one and then move on.

You need to start watching good Hindi cinema. I would suggest you to go through the list if you would like to have a better prespective. Watch them and tell me Hindi cinema is not adapting and changing. I am sure you would like them if you give a try.

All of them are recommended except No. 20 and No. 25. (Didn't like them personally)

well the market is all over the world. The question is can Bollywood adapt?
Can they make the changes that will allow them to appeal to a broader audience?
Even white people here watch Bollywood ..... Ironically

adaptation...is what is required indeed afterall..financers need money and will obviously concentrate on it

please enlightn me..how many heros release 5 movies a year

every industry makes some crap movies...just because u've seen only those films..u canot generalise them to all...and people have different interests..just because u dont like them doesnt mean everybody doesnt....nobody expects unanimously the same from a film..

Sharuk Khan has been making movies since the 90s and has about 80 movies he has been.
Tom Cruise has been making movie since the 80s and has been in about 30 movies.

So what were you saying?

Because Lollywood overdoes it by a long shot.

We can give credit to Bollywood for finding and sticking to a formula balancing the soft **** (for men) with the emotional content (for women) and making sure neither aspect gets too excessive to turn the other gender off.

why are you so obsessed with ****?????????and hollywood shows hardcore not even softporn..so u say even hollywoods worst????a pervert even sees lust even if a saree is tied to a tree..

Bollywood's core industry will always be Indian, while also making money from foreign countries where there is a market for it on the side, the task ahead for Bollywood is to try and expand the market they have in other foreign nations. Kind of like how Japan makes its anime stuff for locals, and capitalized on its foreign markets to expand its revenue, but still if you watch anime, its very localized to Japanese culture.

. The only way I see it changing is when it has enough funds to compete with Hollywood in the future, but currently the American market is 40 times bigger than Bollywood by revenue.

The differnce is that Anime is very unique. It has it's own style and again, it has so many different genres. You can watch romantic comedy anime, horror anime, robots fighting in Space anime. It's flexibility is it's strength. If all anime were a love story then it would never have been popular around the world.

And this may offend some but I have always said that South Asians have zero senense of style, class and culture.
Everything we do is either "Traditional" or a cheap copy of the west. we have no real modern culture or taste. and that is reflected in bollywood.

so 80 movies in 30 years counts 5 movies per year..i didnt know that
and u said something about tomcruise???well hollywoods not just about u.s or english it has all the western nations.how many heros are there in hollywood??..and bollywoods just indian..count how many top heros are there in bollywood and obviously the avg films would be greater..

Can you provide some stats about Bollywood popularity in mainstream Russia, outside a cult niche?

Bollywood is watched in Pakistan and the Middle East, not because of any artistic draw, but simply because, unlike the local movie industry, Bollywood shows skin. A lot of it.

Sex sells; that's all there is to it.

In Western, East Asian and other countries, where there is not such a taboo against female semi-nudity in local movies, Bollywood has failed to make inroads beyond a niche market (rare exceptions notwithstanding).

Biased opinion, Bollywood is a different flavor and has its own market, Who don't like color, dance and Music.

Bollywood or Indian movies are different flavor and they can carve a different market.

so 80 movies in 30 years counts 5 movies per year..i didnt know that

you are just being a pedantic idiot
I said "like 5 movies a year"
which is a simile and not meant to be taken literally, but meant to illustrate a point.
You can learn more here

The point, which you ignored because you knew you can't actually make an argument against is that while Sharuk Khan is pumping out multiple cheap and crappy movies a year, Tom cruise is releasing a better quality movie every few years.

you people have a God given gift to either not understand what the other person is saying or ignore it and substitute your own fabricated reality.

I was comparing two of the biggest names in each industry by the number of movies they made and the number of years they have been active.

To a rational and logical person that is a fair comparison, but in your mind because I used a simile with the number 5, somehow that invalidates everything else.

And sorry for hurting your feeling, maybe next time you won't act like one and I wont have to call you one. :)

as i said befor..i never rejected your claims every body has a right to opine ..but i m just objective...yes some movies are crappy to some people...do you think if nobody likes the films they would make crores of rupess in india and abroad???just because u like or donot like the same thing doesnt means that everybody should be of the same opinion..someone has alrdy posted some list..so try to watch some...and next tym try to be more objective than subjective...you can not generalise the whole of bollywood as crap because of some movies which are crap..or according to u which are crap...

TO make quality movies you need to spend time, ofter years on just one movie. But in Bollywood you have 1 actor releasing like 5 movies a year.
Not true. Most movie shooting would be done in a month so that an actor could do 12 movies if he was working hard.

What matters is pre-production(planning) and post-production, not the length of actual production. There are TV dramas that look and feel like movies yet there are 12 episodes per season.

The differnce is that Anime is very unique. It has it's own style and again, it has so many different genres. You can watch romantic comedy anime, horror anime, robots fighting in Space anime. Anime is the only Japanese content that's still selling overseas nowadays, while Japanese movie, drama and music tanked. Why? Japanese movie, drama, and music can live on Japanese domestic market only, while the Japanese anime industry can't.

In order for Bollywood movies to really become global, then the conditions in India must be such that Bollywood movies cannot sustain on Indian domestic market alone.

So why can't Bollywood produce a movie like Gandhi?

Please point out the movie that took a month to make. And i dont mean some xyzwood production but stuff i know, western movies. I worked in post production for 2 years. I know we waited half a month for a finished commercial to work on it, let alone movie......
